Why do U drive a Almera/Sunny/Pulsar/NX/Avenir/Tino?
Thought it would be interesting to hear why you guys & girls are behind the wheel of a Pulsar?
My first Pulsar was a Black '93 GTi-R, with a T3/4 turbo, 3" exhaust and a HKS F-CON computer, coil over suspension, with 17" Racing Gear V5's holding back 180kw at the wheels. An 'incident' with a pothole cut short the cars life just before I got serious with engine mods. R.I.P. After a brief interlude in a 4WD Turbo KE TX3 Laser, VL Turbo Holden Commodore and a '98 WRX EVO Clubspec. It was a chance meeting with a little old lady that had had one too many chardonnay's that left me in possesion of a '98 N15 Sedan. The front end damage required a new bonnet, guards, headlights(from a SSS) and after some digging around managed to find a SR18DE & gearbox. A mild bodykit, some phat 16" rims and a shot of the giggle gas(before F&F came out mind you...) gave it some decent road credibility. My ex-gf was driving when a driver ran a red light and hit the car in the front. She left it idling while exchanging details and waiting for the Police to arrive... The result? A cooked motor from a damaged radiator... Other cars came along but nothing filled the void, a '95 S14 200SX with a RB25DET NEO and scissor doors was most notable. I still had my soft spot for the venerable little Pulsar that most of my friends refered to as shopping trolleys. Whilst looking for parts on the 200SX one day, I came across a Black N14 SSS with 18"s looking for a new home. Without any delay, I was on a flight to Sydney and fell in love with it... On the maiden run home to northern NSW, it was fabulous but I knew that this time, I was going to do it right. The following is my baby www.cardomain.com/id/blackn14sss I really hope this inspires you to tell everyone else why you are proud to be a Almera/Sunny/Pulsar/NX/Avenir/Tino owner... Thanks Matt

I drive it because...
I don't know what it was that i first fell in love with. I think it was the fact that it was a small, stylish car that none of my friends had and best of all... It came with a T-top!!!
I "drive" a 1987 Nissan Pulsar NX XE. It had more than enough problems with it for being abandoned in a field for so many years, but after a couple of months and some sunny days it is finally street legal. The only problem is i'm not legal right now. In two days i finally get it registered and insured along with me getting my license. Watch out open road here i come. I just love the little car although i'm upgrading the engine from a E16I to a CA16DE or bigger. I'll have a pic up soon of it. |

My first Pulsar (and first car) was/is a 1989 N13 Pulsar GL hatchback. To tell you the truth, it wasn't really the thing I first wanted. I was after something with a little more power (it's only got a 16LF)... BUT it's been a good project car, it came with a lot of problems which I've had to fix (including such things as replacing a lot of corroded parts on the motor, replacing the brake pads and discs, resoldering the PCB board on the instrument cluster, as well as adding a relatively big stereo system), and I think the time has come to sell up, but I will definitely be considering another Pulsar, hopefully a newer model, something like an N14 SSS. We'll see...

Re: Re: Why do U drive a Almera/Sunny/Pulsar/NX/Avenir/Tino?
I just watched American Beauty last night, so I couldn't resist a little homage to Kevin Spacey......anyway......more serious now.
My love for my silver 1987 Nissan Pulsar NX SE hatchback can be traced back to a car I owned 5 years, and four cars ago. It was a silver 1983 Nissan Sentra 4dr. Underpowered, unaerodynamic, unattractive, and unloved. But, it was my first car, and began my fascination with all cars. If I had held onto it a bit longer (to say it another way: if some jackass hadn't smashed into me in the Target parking lot and took off) I might have put some effort into making the car suck a little less. However, denied that opportunity, I moved on. Fast forward 5 years to 4 months ago.....I laid eyes on the silver 1987 Nissan Pulsar NX SE hatchback in the backyard of a friend. I walked around it, appreciating the smooth lines of the hood, roof and hatch....popping the hood, I saw the Nissan ca16de! Everything about this car was everything my sentra could not be. I asked my friend why such a sweet car was chillin in the backyard with 2 feet of prairie grass around it. He says: "It doesn't run.....not since I wrecked it...." Now, mind you, all the body work had been fixed, it had been repainted, the only piece missing was a running engine. He had taken it to a few mechanics and back to the Nissan dealership. All were stumped. In a somewhat racist comment, one [redneck] mechanic said: "My eyes aren't slanted enough to find out what's wrong with this thing...." Out of options, but not willing to part with the car, he parked it in the backyard. That was in 1995. Being rather intrigued by any sort of mechanical/electrical challenge, I offered to take a look at it. He said: "Hey, if you can get it running, you can have it." I said: "Sweet." I came back a few days later with a toolkit, a battery (which the car was missing), an air filter (the one in the car looked like it had been used to mop a dirt floor), and lots of zip-ties. Much of the wiring harness had been cut open from the protective tubing and was sprawled about the engine compartment. The airbox and most of the intake had also been disassembled and was strewn around. The ignition coils had also been removed and were chillin' in the trunk. Apparently, his father-in-law, a "self-certified mechanic" had "taken a look at it." Which I understand to mean: "Take everything apart and leave it that way." After much reassembly, it would turn over, but not start. I determined that diagnosis would be easier back in my garage than in a field.....so it was towed over on a dolly. In the garage, it is determined that only one ignition coil is getting voltage to fire. The ignition module is replaced. With all coils firing, there is still no life. Upon checking the fuel injectors, there seems to be proper voltage, so the computer is suspected. However, three of the injector wires had open connections, so these were fixed first. The computer is checked, and found to have good signal to injectors 2 & 3, but not 1 & 4. Upon tracing the wires from the EFI relay to the battery, a faulty fusible link is found. It was passing voltage but was eroded to the point that there was insufficient current to actuate the injectors! Upon replacement of this fusible link, the engine started and ran, but only on two cylinders (2 & 3). To check injectors 1 & 4 for proper operation, I placed jumper wires at the computer between injectors 1 & 2, and 3 & 4. Engine now purrs like a kitten. A very loud kitten, for the back panel of the muffler is entirely rotted out, something I never seem to get around to fixing Various little details are yet to be resolved, like a misbehaving Idle Air Solenoid, and cold start problems. However, I expect these to be solved by a replacement computer. If not, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Interesting side note, the crank angle sensor was fully advanced when I got it running, and the car was UnGodly Fast. (Premium Gas was used during the diagnosis time to avoid detonation due to tuning problems) I did not experience any problems with this setup....However, in the interest of engine longevity and my drivers license, I reset it to proper base timing marks as per the service manual. Somewhat disappointing in comparison, but still quite fast! I absolutely love this car. Reassembling nearly everything under the hood, and getting an engine to start that was described by some to be "unstartable" forms a special bond, I think. I'm intrigued by the possibility of a CA18DET swap, but am planning on carrying that out on another pulsar chassis.....as this one holds special sentimental value. Well, there's my story. If you read this whole absurdly long post, congratulations!!!Michael |

Re: Why do U drive a Almera/Sunny/Pulsar/NX/Avenir/Tino?
Words cannot describe how I feel right now...
The local city council lawn mower flicked rocks / sticks all over my car a few weeks ago while it was parked in my backyard(council land behind my place). I finally get them to cough up the dosh and was stripping my interior so the panel beaters could get easier access to the rear quarters and door panels. When to my surprise - I find cracks in my sheet metal in the rear quarter panels on both sides!!!!! After investigating the problem, I found that the 215/35 tyres on 18" rims are causing my rear strut towers to flex, which in turn is connected by my 'C' pillars and my wheel arches. Essentially, every bump I hit is causing the wheel arch to move in relation to the chassis and that means I now got cracks in the crease between my 'C' pillar and my quarter panel. Me thinks some 15"s will be on order for race days and a weekend with the arc welder for continued daily use. BUGGER

Re: Re: Why do U drive a Almera/Sunny/Pulsar/NX/Avenir/Tino?
Hey psychopathicdude .... I was the proud owner of a restored Pulsar NX SE CA18DE. Dohc is what makes this pulsar better than the Single overhead cam ... I too thought about turbo but I put about $5500 into her ( she was already driveable just needed tlc and some better parts ) I didn't want my motor to break anymore or any other part to get worn down faster, so i left it as CA18DE, f&*$# the turbo for now ... I had huge plans for another car at that time. Anyways It was awesome, all new tires, original aluminum rims, drive train all brand new, rack and pinion new, power steering pump new, shifter kit fixed and clutch checked adjusted or replaced some parts needed, CV joints new, Timming belt replaced, crank angle sensor new, 4 new Coils in the motor and spark plugs, also 2 injectors new, Valves and springs are all new, flex pipe Exaust from the manifold to the tail pipe all new... instument panel ... Everything worked ... A/C , awesome heater, mmm it got toasty quick in the winter
T-tops were awesome effect ... that's what I liked a lot ... I ended up crashing her, my bad, I took an illegal left ... almost died ... passenger was in real bad shape, she sued me ... can you imagine, a friend suing you and giving you no money ... she walked away with $70,000 and didn't give me a cent. She Cracked it all away ... now she has none left ...HAHAHAH bitch ... I had to work my ass off as usual and buy another pulsar ... I swapped all my good parts into that one and all I need to do is some minor body work ... But the demon won't leave my car ... I shift like a race car driver, out of 10 I'm right up there, ten being the best I'm probably a 9 ... I down shift too, same brakes for over 2 years and they barely look touched....hehe. So she works fine but that demon I mentioned ... very old parts still belonging to the car start to go ... and being 18 yrs old ... NO shit ... stuff will break ... all those new parts and I now got a tranny problem ... it never ends with these pieces of shit ... RX7 all the way, I'm putting TT in her and then no fkn' Nissan will touch me ... not even the 350 ZX ... lol. j/k, If better than what i put in mine, she might be beaten by JIM Wolf Technology ... but the RX7 will smash the cometition ... lol. Have fun man, go turbo but with a high end car, don't do it with the lowest end of course ... you'd be stupid to try that ...
