New engine?

Hey. I've got an 89 probe gt. And I wanna know it I could remove the four cylinder and put in a v6. I was told that the non turbo'd and the same models but later years had a 3.0 inline six in them. If this is true, isnt it possible to put a V6 in? Thanks-

Re: New engine?

the gl has the 2.2 nt the gt had the turbo and after 89 the lx had the V6. But the 2.2l is a mazda engine and the v6 is ford, so you would have to replace the tranny 2, plus all the wiring, engine mounts and basically everything, it would just be better to invest all this money into the turbo, i put into 1500 into my 89gt and it beats mustangs, dont waste time with the v6.

hmmm

I see. well I need a new engine cause this one is dying. Or is possibly damn near dead. Anyways. I'd like to stick a bigger engine in it when i buy a new one. And doesnt smoking when start up (whiteish blue smoke) mean that one youre burning oil and two valve guides are worn down? Little help...Thanks by the way!

Re: New engine?

its possible to put in a V6 but for the same price you can put a turbo engine in. Do all this work to it, put out 300hp or get a v6 in it with 140hp. If you want the V6 that bad your best bet is just to get a LX

Cool

it can be done, but like shawn said there is alot of work to this swap,i know i did it with my 91gt after a engine fire, you'll need to swap wiring harnesses, tranny, axels, steering knuckles, motor mounts, its not hard if you have the knowledge and tools.

Re: New engine?

dude...the 1992 probe gt's are faster than the 93-97 GTs. even thought the 2nd gens are v6, the first is a sweet turbo engine. just pop another turbo engine in there. you will find them all day long at the junkyards, or look into maybe a JDM engine.

the v6 vulcan would be kinda heavy compared to the , and would require a bunch of work...TOTALLY not worth it...and besides...the 90-92 v6 is the same 3.0L as the one in the aerostar minivan...hehe

ps. there was no inline 6, only v6. for a front wheel drive setup, inline 6's would bee too long.
