91 exp. EEC relay in Power Distribution box is blowing when key is turned
Ok.. this is a hard one... i've been troubleshooting it for a while now just ending up scratching my head.
any help would be GREATLY appreciated. So here's the short of it. The truck broke down under normal use, just driving to work. I towed it home and push come to shove i found out that when i turned the key, the 30A EEC relay/fuse was blowing. They EEC fuse is under the hood in the power distribution box. I took my ohm-meter and ohmed out the two sides of that fuse point with the key turned on. One side was 0 ohms with + on the battery. The other side was 0 ohms with - on the battery. Thus, i'm getting however many amps the battery holds through that 30 amp fuse, thus the blowing of it. Now, I've looked at some wiring diagrams of the engine and it seems the other side of this fuse goes to the EEC Power Relay. My question is, do you all think that somewhere there's a wire grounding out on the chassis, or do you think my EEC power relay is bad and should just be replaced? thanks for your help... |

Unplug relay and see if continuity goes away. If it does, replace relay.

Pull the relay, turn the key. Do you still blow the fuse? if so you're shorted prior to the relay. If it only blows when the relay is in then it's probably the relay.
