Question Which prelude should i get??

OK, this is my problem. I know i want a prelude 4th Generation but the problem is, which year?? buh buh told me i should get a 95 because it has obdI which is better for taking mods then a 96 which has obdII which would have to be reset every few weeks. Isnt there a way to get around that? anyway... whats the differences between 95 and 96 preludes? im planning to get VTEC of course but its gonna be pretty hard to find a VTEC is good condition so i might settle for a SI but i will definetly try to find a vtec. if you know a good place or someway where i can find the prelude i want, i would appreciate it but i have a few months till i buy the car so i have some time to find and research the car. plz dont suggest a 5th generation cuz i like the old style better then the 5th G. if anyone would know the answer to my questions, it would be you guys! i would appreciate any input, Thanx!

First of all, yay! (yeah, i just said 'yay'....i'm a girl after all) i LOVE the 4th gen. so much better than the 5th gen. body. i've got a thing for the curves...they're just so sexy!

That said...definitely take the time to find a VTEC...don't just 'settle' for an Si. It'll save you a lot of trouble later. I have the Si, and eventually, you'll probably get the urge for VTEC, and you'll have to spend time, money, getting a swap done. If it affects your decision at all, i know the later model 4th gens have the digital dash....some like it, some don't. other than those points, your decision should probably be based more on the mileage, condition, etc. of whatever lude you happen to find. good luck!

I'm going to have to disagree with ludegirl and tell you to get an SI. I have a 95 vtec and although i love the vtec and the leather seats coming stock there are a few advantages to getting an si. One of the things I really hate about my car is the ridiculous insurnace i pay. Si's are a lot less on the insurance side. you can find a 95 si in great shape for 3 to 4 thousand less then a vtec. with the extra money you save buying an si you can swap on a vtec head and get leather interior from a junkyard. you'll have leather, more HP (due to the bigger displacement of the 2.3l si block) and cheaper insurance. it really depends on how much you want to deal with though. it might not be worth all the trouble to you. I've heard the same as far as the OBDI and OBDII. the 92 - 93's have a slightly different interior then the 94- 96's.

just like i said, he'd save himself some trouble just getting the vtec in the first place instead of swapping this and that and the other....and i have an si, and my insurance is still a bitch, so i don't think he'd save that much money on insurance going with an si.

the Si is sweet but i soo bad am wanting the power of the vtec. if you get a Si then save up for a vtec, low insurance would defintely be a advantage...

here is my opinion;
as great as the vtec is i think you should go with the Si.
A:
They cost less to buy, and a lot less on the insurance.
B:
The power isn't that far reduced from the vtec.
C:
I have heard some people say they think they handle better than the vtec.

I have a 95 Si and I absolutely love it.

Talking thanx

Thanx for all your answers but now im even more torn on which to get, si or vtec.... im leaning more towards si since im only 16 years old and insurance will be a big problem for me and plus, im sure there isnt such a big difference between si and vtec. now all i need to find out is which year i should get. Which year do u guys (and girls) think i should get? i dont know the difference between the 92-96 years. could u plz name a few differences? THANX ALOT!!!!

p.s. LudeGirl, ur lude is very SEXY, very nice job. You must be Steamin Hott to drive a car like that how much did the bodykit, instalation and paint job cost you?

insurance is all relative to your age / sex / location / driving record / coverage level / and sometimes credit. Lets look at his situation. He's a 16 yr old guy, living in NY, he could be near NYC or in the boonies somewhere - both would have a huge effect on how much he pays. He probably has no tickets or accidents which is good, but no experience either so thats bad, and he probably has no credit. Unless he's under his parents coverage he's gonna be looking at a huge insurance payment. I know where I live and with my clean driving record, if i were to be driving an Si my insurance would be a several hundred dollars cheaper a year because i got quotes for both where i live. So saving a few hundred a year on insurance, plus paying a few thousand less for the car, then doing the head swap and having a car thats more powerful for a little less or right around the same price as a stock vtec makes a lot of sense to me. I just got a really good deal on my car so i went with the vtec.

Mystdocom try calling some insurance companies and get a couple of quotes on what it would cost you if you were to be driving a vtec instead of the Si. Have them change the year of the car too. the older the car the cheaper the insurance, generally speaking. You'll see what I'm talking about.

myst,

i would recommend getting a 94-96 over a 92-93. There are differences in the interior, subtle but differences none the less. Personally I think the later model ones are better. The emergency brake is relocated a bit. And the dash is all digital. (not all of it is in the 92-93's) There are a couple others which i cannot recall right now. Go to www.hondaprelude.com and look at some of the 4th gen setups. They will have pictures of the interiors posted and you can check them out to compare. I have a white 95 si which I bought in January completely stock. When I bought it the previous owner had kept it in immaculate condition and had all the records with it. I bought it with 80k for $8800.
What do you guys think?

puahahaha! thank you!

i got my kit at cost....he he...one of my perks
installation and paint was basically free because i was in an accident, so when i went to fix my car, we knew the guy at the bodyshop, so he hooked us up on the price to fix it, install the kit, and paint the whole car....i ended up coming out of my own pocket about $50 bucks...but anyway, it was about $2500.

Thats like the exact same car i want!! i want mine in white and 8800 seems cheap to me, i was expecting in the 5 digits.

ur so lucky!!! i really need to start making friends with some body shop people! im gonna be doing alot of mods so im gonna need a friend to hook me up but anyways.

im thinking about getting the si because first of all, im a new driver and i will be getting stick so i have to practice on that, second, im not going to be racing (not yet anywayz) third of all, it will save my dad lots of insurance and i wont have to put in as much money to get the car.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR HELPING ME OUT, NOW ALL I HAVE TO DO IS BUY IT!

just one more question, what mileage do you think i should get? like around what range is a good mileage and at what mileage does the motor like break down?

depends what year you get...if you go with the '95 you want, i'd say about 80-90k would be average

I'm not sure what kit that is but i like one that is similar. its called the andy's combat kit. its a little smoother then the one you posted and in my opinion compliments the curves of the 4th gen a little nicer.
heres a pic:
