Insturment panel has multiple issues

My borther died last year and I inherited his 1999 Grand AM. The car sat for six months while the car went through probate.

Anyway, the instrument panel light flickers sometime, works perfect sometimes, and most of of the time does not work at all. Also, the speedometer just started to act crazy, it will not work fine, blink, or only show three numers outof six.

I have no idea what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Insturment panel has multiple issues

Where did the car sit, was it sitting in a garage where animals could have gotten into the car? If so you may want to check the wiring, sometimes mice or other rodents get in and chew in the wires. It could also be a short in a wire or even a loose wire or wires. You say that only 3 of the numbers show up is it an electronic dash? If it is the dash is like a circut board and could be bad or going bad if so then you may have to get it replaced.

Hope this helps,

The car sat in my driveway

I live in a urban area area. Sometimes I will hit a bump and the instrument panel will come on or go off.

Also, my cousin repalced the lower intake manifold gasket on it while it was sitting. Their was coolant in the oil. He fixed it for free.

I also think my brother might have modified the instrument panel; the panel has a blue background for the speedometer and the tachometer.

I have no idea of how to even diagnose the issue.

Re: Insturment panel has multiple issues

It sounds more like loose wires maybe at the site where your brother made the modification.
