much better 12.0 @ 118mph street tires gt2871r .64

bunch of us went to the track tonight just to hang, and after a bunch of horrible 2.7 and 2.4 60's, i bust out a 1.9 on kumho ecsta 711's

19psi, stock head gasket, gt2871r .64, hks 264/264, topspeed intake manifold, 800cc/z32, enthalpy tune, 180sx vlsd

same sucky track i ran the 12.6 at, after some weight reduction (front bumper support, cf hatch, cf hood) and another lb of boost. i think this car would do high 11's on these (crappy) street tires at a better track. track is notorious for .2-.3 slower et's. launched at 5k, slight feathering of clutch then it just went and i nailed every gear. if i held the clutch a tenth longer i bet it would have pulled a better 60' because i probably hit 2nd before the 60' ended.

the tires do have a 225/50/16 and 245/50/16 going for them though. smaller, better tires like bfg dr's would probably increase the acceleration and get me off the line a lot quicker.

d2 coilovers have 9/7 spring rates, but were adjusted full soft in front and rear. 22psi (warm) in the rear tires, 30psi in the fronts. the car actually had pretty good weight transfer.

that said, im very very very happy  dr's are on my list of things to get, but after this run they have been pushed back because im really happy with this time on street tires.

im glad because now all these cleveland 240's have gotta run an 11 sec time to beat me

Re: much better 12.0 @ 118mph street tires gt2871r .64

I just threw some 100 octane into the Z tonight... sure does feel stronger.

Probably picked up a good 10hp from just the gas alone... not sure what this has to do with the thread, but under boost it was much stronger... soo I was fairly fast tonight!

w00t!

Go SR20DET! hehe

Did you turn up the boost? If not, then how did you gain 10 hp from it? You should actually loose some power because the 100 octane is harder to ignite.

not true. redneck lives in cali where they have piss gas or 91 octane. so any boosted car or any modern compression n/a car will lose around 10hp straight from the showroom floor running the minimum allowable octane rating. this is because the car is always knocking if the ecu tries to advance timing. when it knocks its throws the timing back a few degrees until the knocking stops. so by boosting up the octane to a decent level, the ecu will not see any knocks and will be allowed the maximum timing advance.

Re: much better 12.0 @ 118mph street tires gt2871r .64

Tat's right... I had a tank full of primarily 91 octane, I threw in a couple of gallons if 100. It probably boosted it to about 94-95 octane, basically what is run in Japan.

I soo, I assume the motor was running to it's full potiential. Not sure if it was '10 horsepower' but I felt a noticeable difference... now I just gotta find a station that has it closer to home. I don't want to drive 50 miles to get 100 octane.
