$5000 build-up game

No, you won't win $5000, but after reading the thread on the Camaro vs. Evo, everyone write up a car (including the car) that you could build for $5000 and guesstimate the HP it will have. The rules are that it must be fairly reliable (no 300 shot on a stock civic engine), $5000 budget including the car, and no flaming. I'll go first:

91 NA MR2 $1000
Gen 2 JDM 3sgte $2500
clutch $400
IC (Greddy) $700
Custom exhaust $500

At 15-17 psi should dyno at about 250 whp and run low 13s with a good driver..

Re: $5000 build-up game

I cant buy any car that I want for less than five grand, and any engine that I would want for less than five...

Ummm...I say a go kart with an LS1 or 2JZ...lol...I dunno.

Seriously? I think I could find a 240Z body thats motorless, and not quite up to par with most safty standards for 200, a used SR20DEt on ebay for a cuple thouand, use the rest to build up the motor.

Re: $5000 build-up game

Ahh, can't do it for just $5K. So i'll just build an engine, lol.

Start with a 400 block, get it punched out .030. Then get forged internals (probably $1500 for rods, pistons-13.5:1 compression-, crank, and all the bearings/rings), then go with a .680 lift roller cam, AFR allum. heads, 2.10/1.6 valves, ported Victor Jr. Intake with Holley 750-850 cfm Proform carb.

All of that would get ya about 650 or so hp.

this guy i know is building a 12 second 240 for $2500 hes almost done.

a 89 240sx with blown engine. $300

custom turbo manifold $300

T3 super 60 turbo $250

custom intercooler and piping $300

custom downpipe and exhuast $400

injectors and fuel controller $500 ( ebay )

junkyard sohc engine with tranny $200

clutch $300

drag radial $250

so thats a total of $2800. but since he has alot of those parts lying around his house, he actually has to spend less then $2500

he should run a high 12 and trap over 110mph. to show his credibility, his other car is a ka-t S14 making over 400whp on race gas and is able to spin his drag radials down the 1320 shifting to 5th going 110+mph.

other v8's can run similar times, but i doubt any will touch his top end. most 12 second 5.0's in my school only traps in the mid 100mph range.

high 12s @ 110mph+? at 110mph i'd think he should be running mid 12s.

well thats all up to shifting speed and take off. of course its typical for imports to run a higher trap speed for the same 1/4 mile time. we just don't have the low end grunt of a v8. however we make up for it up top. of he has done mid 12's @110mph before in his other 240 so its all up to how good of a run he has. but still a mid 12 second car for $2500 is freaking cheap. of course the car doesnt' have matching color body panels and its pretty much a clunker, but thats not the point of it.

Re: $5000 build-up game

For imports? You mean for any small high revving motors? Normally FWD traps higher than RWD for the same ETs..but 240s are RWD.
