Unhappy Electrical prob after changing switch??

Hey All. My wife's suburban's headlights would intermittantly go out while driving. I took apart the shell around the steering collum and found two wires on the multi function swith burned almost into. I could move the wires and duplicate the problem. I purchased a new switch and installed it. Now the car will not start. Security light stays on. Headlights and interior light are inop. Checked fuses and all seem to be good. The engine turns over but will not start. I suspect some kind of anti-theft security device that i need to reset. Does anyone know where I should turn. The car ran fine except for the headlight problem until I replaced the combo switch. I disconnected the battery in attempt to reset. The security light comes back on when I put the key in and try to start. Please help.
