Wtf?!

I hate my Z. Its a 1986 Nissan 300zx NA with over 275000 Km on it. A SOHC 3.0L V6. Me and some friends set up a race event today and a few people from around town came and raced it up. I raced a Pontiac Sunbird with a 3.1L V6. I raced a Sunbird before with a 4 banger and smoked it. Where when I raced this other Sunbird I lost horribly. I also lost to a 1989 Honda Civic Si with intake, headers, and exhaust. The gears on my Z are grinding to shit, mainly from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd. It is so annoying, I'm going to try some better tranny fluid, see if that helps. Also my alignment is fucked and when I drive at speeds around 180KM/H my car rattles like hell. When I lift my hands off the steering wheel its shaking up and down like half an inch either way. It is just annoying me to no end. I want to find a turbo engine with low kms and do an engine swap, but where I live there are like no Z's... I don't have the cash for any mods or engine or anything so I'm basically screwed. Oh and I also lost to a Sunfire GT. But I won against a Camaro with a 2.8 litre V6! Woohoo, haha.

don't even bother. even if you still swap the engine in the car. the rest of hte car would still be a car with 275000 miles on it. which i find pretty amazing that the thinge even runs. all in seriousiness though. if you put your car on a hydrolic lift, its probrably all rusted underneth the car. sooo your chassis pretty much fucked. save the money and just buy a decent used with less miles and work your way from there. its better to invest in a better thing then to invest a shit load in a car thats about to die in every possible way.

Hmm, makes sense. Ya I think that would be the best idea. I had to get my brakes done, cost $800, need to get steering done, est. $300. Then my tranny, I might need a new one. So yea I guess that's what i'll do. Thanks man, it'll save me in the long run.

i would keep the car tho, since it's probably all paid off i'd just work on it little by little and eventually put it up in an antique car show or something... it'd be pretty cool to have! keep it!

It's not 275000 miles , it's kilometers . that's a bit less miles... But it's not that bad , my friend had 1 000 000 Km on a W124 Diesel Benz with the original engine ... and he sold it to a taxi company ... honestly.... But when it comes to sport cars it's a bit much... Change the engine , the tranny , brakes , suspension , steering , strip it down and sand it , look for any rust if there is some then fix it , put a new leather in interior , repaint it , get it detailed and go winning awards on car shows :bandit:

Yea it's all paid off. I bought it off my dad's friend for $2000 CDN. The main problems are the tranny, the steering, the rust, and various small problems. The rust is on the rear fender wells, a little on the inside of the hatch, and a little above the front windsheild. The steering is all screwed up cause it just turned winter, and the roads were icy, and I hit a curb when I was slowing down at a turn, i freakin hit it at like 10 Km/h and messed my alignment. I need a new CV-Boot and U-Joint. The engine runs good for having that many Kms on it. But 2 nights ago I went racing, and now when ever the air is on, it smells like dust or something in the cab, and my windows are fogging up like crazy and it isnt even cold out.

I love the z31's and there aren't any better cars for under 2 grand. Plus the chances of finding a Z in my area are pretty slim I believe.

I dunno, if I can save up the money, then I might fix it up. What would be the first thing I should do?? I'm thinking get a new tranny...but new fluid might be all it needs, I bet its never been changed .

The reason it's lasted so long is because it's a Nissan. It probably won't last to much longer. I think you need to start saving. If you like Z's, you could pick-up a 90-91 Z for under $8000. You may want to look in that direction.
