AC Compressor Problem ???

My AC compressor is recycling every 2/3 seconds and makes the idle go up and down. I recently had a AC recharge could there be a leak causing the system failure?? Thanks for any info

Re: AC Compressor Problem ???

Did you figure this one out yet? My 2001 sport trac is doing the same thing. I had a code p0171 and p0174 found and fixed a vacuum leak didn't resolve the problem. I still have the p0171 code. I re-charged the air condition. That didn't work. It may not be the air compressor. Turning on the air conditioner puts a load on the engine and may be making the real problem more noticable but heck if I can find the problem. Looked at and checked the MAF. Looked at all the vacuum lines I can find. Changed the PCV. I hear horror stories about taking this to the dealer with a p0171 code. The dealer likes to just change parts until they find if they find what the problem was.

Re: AC Compressor Problem ???

Have you had the pressures checked in your A/C system to make sure they are where they should be? You could be low on R-134a or overcharged. Start with the basics before replacing parts.
