Putting a SE front bumper cover on a GT.

I recently went into a ditch with my 1996 grand am gt. I want to replace the front bumper cover, but I plan on getting a body kit in a year or so. I don't really want to spend $250 on a GT cover when the SE only cost about $70 when its just going to be replaced soon.
Well a SE cover fit on my GT? Any modifications I can make to allow it to?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Honestly, unsure if that helps. Would seem that the SE would bolt up, but no doubt you will need to do some drilling or bolt a metal bracket or two on to make the SE cover stay on.

Myself, if ya can find a GT for the same price, then ya no worries with bolt-on. Otherwise, get under the ride, look close at the mount points of the damaged cover, put them on paper [what bolts go where, what is frame-bolted, etc].

Take that to the boneyard, crawl under the replace-ride and see how close they match. A good boneyard should have a Hollander's Interchange Manual, that may save you all kinds of time by telling ya right off if an SE will bolt up to a GT.

i know that on the 92-95's the SE bumper and GT bumpers are interchangable without modifications. I dont see why the 96-98 would be any different. But then again we are talking about cars here.

Alright, well we have put one junk yard in this tiny crappy town, so I'll have to go their and see if they have one of these hollanders interchangable guides. If not, then I guess I'm going to have to check it out myself.
Then again, I just found out my rack got messed up also, so I may just have to pay the deductable and get my insurance company to fix it.
thanks for your help everyone, and if you know for sure if it will fit, please post!

Re: Re: Re: Putting a SE front bumper cover on a GT.

one other thing I noticed that has nothing to do with my bumper...
When I checked the coolant for the first time to see if it was dirty or anything (just bought the car) I noticed some black around the inside of the cap. I wiped it out, and its like a black sludge, which I heard might have something to do with the coolant leaking into the oil or something of this nature... Should I be worried? I plan on flushing the coolant, anything I can do to check well I'm doing that? I believe it was with 3.4l engines and I have a 3.1 ,but I thought I'd ask anyway

Just go with the flush, get a backflush kit, around $7-8 bucks, ya just cut a heater hose and put the fitting in, directions are on the pacage. Run a radiator flush cleaner first, drain some coolant first so the cleaner will get into the system and work.

It's funny you asked the fascia question, because just a few days ago, a couple miles from my house, I actually saw a newer light blue GA SE with a white GT fascia on it setting in a driveway. So my guess is that they're deffinately interchangeable, unless, of course, that person had to modify it. But I doubt it.
