airbag deployment

My airbag recently deployed without incurring any impact. Dealer says there was water in the front passenger floor panel where the air bag module sensor is situated. They are unclear as to how the water got there (apparently they haven't read your site and found out that the windshield cowling is a common problem). Anyhow, just wondering if anybody else is having this problem (air bag deployment) and/or if they got notice from GM (Canada or the US) that there is a recall notice (at least from Transport Canada for 1996 Grand Am's) to advise of a potential problem if the car is exposed to 'substantial amounts of water'.

I didn't get a notice ... GM Cdn. headquarters said they were sent out. Is there another Ontario or Cdn. person out there with a 1996 Grand Am that did receive notification? It was supposedly sent out in July 2003. Did your dealer advise you of the problem? Again, mine did not and apparently didn't even know of the recall.

Any assistance/advice/words of wisdom, greatfully appreciated!

I'm in the U.S. and I have a 96 GAGT the only recall I have gotten lately was in 2003 but it was for an ingniton that could get hot and cause a fire. Nothing in regard to the air bags.

U.S., here too, nada re airbag recall. Unless the silly thing swam over from Canada, [I in Michigan, so it just conceivable, lol]
