Mother Fu**ing MAFS

dammit. i blew the fucking mass airflow sensor again last night. me and some buddies were on our way to the track, shit was running fine everything was good. i drive like 50 something miles and we're all almost at the track when i come down an off ramp. I rev out first gear a lil bit and go to bang second. as soon as i get it in gear the car just shit out on me and wouldn't rev over 2500 rpm. went to autozone and the diagnosed it as a blown mafs, which i already knew, i was just hoping it was something else. i have an aftermarket intake on my car so nissan won't cover it under my warranty. so i called and ordered one and i have to pay out of my pocket so i'm out $488! $488?!?!? how the fuck can one of these cost so much money? the one for our 2000 maxima is like $85. WTF?

That sucks, I haven't blown one yet (knocks on wood). haven't people been replacing the finicky 5.5 gen ones with the 5 gen ones? I thought I red that on the .org somewhere.

Re: Mother Fu**ing MAFS

yeah, you can use the 00-01 mafs but you'll get a never ending SES light beacuse the idle air temp. wire is incorporated into the 02-03 mafs where it's seperate on the earlier 5th gens. i remember readin' on the org you can transfer over the wire to get rid of the SES light, but i'm no good with that shit. supposedly the 03's are a better designed MAFS called the AM600, which is the one i ordered. this is my 3rd MAFS since i had the car, the first 2 were replaced for free under warranty, but this one they're making me pay for. i just think it's shitty of nissan to not try to remedy this situation by making a MAFS that doesn't blow out. i even emailed a company that makes aftermarket MAFS called cobra to see if they could help me out but they didn't have anything for our cars.

I have an 03 which I had an intake on for a while, and I haven't had any MAF issues, so hopefully that will be better.
