Lack of Power

Well I fix one problem and another pops up, so here we go. 87 5.0 now has little or no power, it happened before but the graphite post was messed up, I replaced the Dist Cap and rotor and fixed it for about a week and now the same symptoms are back, when you rev it up it has a funny sound almost like it is not getting enought spark and it will start to flood down and stall at idle. Help again!

thanks

Ira

that's what I menat, have you tested the coil, yes it can be done, you'll need an ohmeter. if not available or you're not sure how, a reputable parts store could help you out. but it is rather easy to do on your own.

Re: Lack of Power

Is your timing outta wack? You could loose alot of power if your timing is retarded.

Re: Lack of Power

Could also be bad coil, or a bad wire giving you that burning. Check all the wires, especially the coil wire to see if its old, and or has corrosion in the boots.

Re: Lack of Power

check the ditributor to make sure its tight.if its not then it will turn when the engine revs.if the timing isnt right then engine temp will make a difference in power.ive found that detonation is more likely once the engine warms up.id replace the cap again but with one from Accel.theyre about $25 and theyre as good as any other brands.the accel coil is probly $50 or $60 but its worth buying and is great for stock or performance engines.checkin to make sure its the coil first would be the smart move tho.
