automatic lights

Hey, this probably seems like a really dumb question, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to shut the automatic lights on my 04 silverado off when it is running?

Re: automatic lights

You should be able to turn the light switch counter-clockwise to the O symbol and the go off. To turn them back on, do it again.

If I remember right.....you "bump" the headlight switch counter-clockwise and then return it to the "auto" position.....This will work untill
the truck is shut down and then it will default to the "auto" mode

Re: automatic lights

On my '02 you have to press the 'dome override" button 4 times, and then you hear a chime

Just curious, but why do daytime running lights annoy people so much?

Re: automatic lights

I've always wondered that myself. I understand wanting them off when you're parked but when you are driving they are a lifesaver. I drive 70k+ a year and it truly does help you see other vehicles if their lights are on.

I see DRL's as useless wastes of power. I see no reason to have any lights on when it is bright and sun shiny outside. Just something that saps power and more bulbs to have to change.

Re: automatic lights

I just took mine out b/c I didnt like the way they looked. Plus u can't see my strobes as well with them burning. I also disabled my auto-headlights to where I have 100% manual control of them.

Re: automatic lights

Change the bulb to orange with a black background to cure your astetics issue. And then when you remove them the guy that pulls out in front of you has the ability to say, "I never saw him coming at me." "Saping" power that runs off the alt is how much power? Do you put your seatbelts on? That takes energy, why put it on it wastes energy that could be used elsewhere?

Each to his own...

Re: automatic lights

You have the most eliquent ways of twisting that don't you??? I guess it would sap energy if you don't put your belt on as the warning light would stay on.

You know what that gets you? A ticket. I don't know where you live, but that's not an excuse where I am. And I should know

That's fine, but I don't think DRL's are gonna prevent any daylight accidents. Frankly, I don't ever remember anything having DRL's until the 90's. How many years were cars around before that? I think it's just something else unneccessary to spend money on. One driver who turns his DRL's off doesn't save that much energy, but if EVERYONE turned them off, how much less gas would be consumed?
