A Good Day Goes Down The Pooper

me and 4 of my friends all decided to go to lebanon racetrack in upstate NY and run our cars. it's like 40-50 miles away, and i haven't gone in a while. so i get someone to cover me at work and i take off early to go have some fun. there are 4 honda civics(one's a crx) with engine swaps and me in my maxima. it's me and a bunch of kids i've known since junior high school on a beautiful day, 'bout to go race our cars. should be a lot of fun, right?

So i'm driving down this shithole section of interstate with a billion potholes and eventually i can't take it anymore and speed up just to try to get past all the bad road and slow pokes. i'm cruising at about 85 in a 55 leading the way to the track when i see there's a cop sitting on the side of the road radaring people right as they come around a blind turn, the fucker gets me going 75, while all my buddies fly by. so the cop gets out of the car and flags me off the the side of the road where he proceeds to give me a ticket despite my total honesty and the fact that i called him sir about 15 times. so like 20 minutes later i get the ticket and i realize that i'm gonna get 4 points on my license if i dont' drive 55 miles out into bumblefuck(aka Milan, NY) and get the cop to plea it down, which at least he said he would do.
so that sucks, but i'm in a good mood, going to the track, shit's still good. so I take off on my way, and at the last exit off the parkway as i'm coming down the off ramp i rev first gear out a little bit after the stop sign at the bottom and go into second gear with a chirp when my car just goes Blah, out of nowhere. my fucking mass airflow sensor suddenly blows, and my ecu goes into safe mode, preventing the car from revving past 2500 rpm, this happened like 3 miles away from the race track. now, in any other car, this isn't a real big deal but the MAFS is $300+ for my car. so i get there and meet up with everyone and i get shit for getting pulled over, then i gotta tell them i can't even run my damn car. i get to video tape everyone else. so, i took off from work, drove like 100 miles got a speeding ticket mad far from home, didn't even get to run my car and am stuck with a repair bill for it and no car til the part comes in. i just can't believe my shit luck, i totally wish i had stayed at work.

I think you should take your Kawasaki to the track.

Haha sorry, I'm just obsessed over Kawasaki's crotch rockets, nothing would be sweeter than to have a ZX-10R, but I'd prolly hurt, or kill myself in the first week on that one.

Were all of your friends speeding too?? Maybe you can set up the date that you go to get your plea or w/e and set up another track date on the same day, that'd be cool. That's funny that your MAF sensor blew, well not funny but yeah, little odd. Really sucks that you didn't get to run it, but ever wonder that maybe that it blew for a reason, like maybe you would have gotten into a horrendous accident on the track, naaa...shit happens.

Re: A Good Day Goes Down The Pooper

i'm still breaking the bike in, and i don't know what she's like past 9,000 rpm. I gotta get used to it first. i'd be scared to get on a zx10R, those things are sick. there was a hayabusa at the track running 9.9x's and low 10's, that bike is awesome.

as for my friends, they were speeding too but i tapped my brakes a few times as soon as my radar detector went off to try to to let them all know the cop was there. i only got caught cuz i was the lead car. the cop just stepped out of his car onto the side of the road and motioned for me to stop, i thought he was gonna step right in front of me. He got some guy in a minivan too and right when he got out of his car to give me my ticket, he flagged down a civic who was speeding. dude was crazy.

and i don't know what the deal is with the mafs, it happened to me once before and i thought i had remedied the problem, it's been over a year since the first time.

Re: A Good Day Goes Down The Pooper

Hey Brian, Sorry to hear about your bad luck, It was probably for the best you didn't get out on the track the way your day was going... as for the MAF, your after market intake might be screwing with it, after I installed my K&N FIPK2 system I would get a Check engine light every now and then, and the code came up for the MAF, I have a programmer that can clear the code, It hasn't done it since last summer but It started giving me the code randomly after the intake was installed.

Which track were you going to? My buddy and I have a "Enduro" car (92' Camry 5spd) we have been preparing for Star Speedway in NH. Basically you crank around the track bumping and slamming your way to the front. A giant pile of shitboxes, spray painted and stripped down
When the weather gets warmer we will hang out at New England Dragway up in Epping NH, A friend gets us free tickets and Passes but you cant hear yourself think after watching Some of the Top Fuel Races.

the mafs failing is a known issue in these cars. i just ordered a new one from my nissan dealership at a cost of $488. i still have a warranty on the car, but with an aftermarket intake i can't get them to cover it and someone in my house threw out my stock airbox one day on a cleaning spree. it's just shitty timing cuz i just bought the bike which pretty much ate up all my funds, and the money i'm spending on this MAFS was going to buy me a joe rocket riding jacket and some boots.

that enduro shit sounds like fun. my buddies and i usually go to lebanon valley speedway, it's near Albany, NY, it's just a 1/4 miles dragstrip, that's where we were last night.

Re: A Good Day Goes Down The Pooper

Hey, That sucks that they threw out your old box.. $488 for a New MAF... that's insane..

Check out the Moto GP line, I bought this jacket when I brought home my bike.. its really comfortable and keeps out all of the wind, has a removable liner with all the protection you need. I have yet to buy a pair of riding boots, for now I use reg. black leather boots. From Bob's
After my buddy wiped out, and got some serious road rash.. I came across a Black Joe Rocket jacket from a guy at work for him.. it's a little bit too heavy for Summer riding, The Moto GP One's have the leather on all the impact spots..to save weight and keep you cooler..
