00 Silverado turns over, wont start
I stopped to get gas and when I tried to start it, the engine turns over fine, but wont start. Fuel gage show below empty, fuel light is lit and rotates between 1- the battery light, 2- Low Fuel, 3- Security. The little light that shows what gear it is in is gone now also no matter what gear it is in, and the tripometer reset to 0.0.
This sound like anything anyone knows about? Thanks for any and all help. Robert |

the passlock system may have come on. if so the truck needs to have the key turned on and let it stay on until the security light goes off. if the key is turned on and the light goes out then this is not the problem but if it stays on then u will need to reset it.

Re: 00 Silverado turns over, wont start
I tried the "reset where you try to start it, leave the on for 10-15 minutes (I waited 20), turn it off, and then start it. Didnt work.
The security light doesnt stay on by itself, it rotates between - The red battery icon.... Low Fuel....Security. Each on stays on 4-5 seconds. |

Re: 00 Silverado turns over, wont start
If the fuel gauge is reading dead 0 (i.e. as far to the left as it can go, similar to the truck being turned off), and you're getting that sequence, I'd wager your fuel pump suffered an electrical problem. Either that, or the computer has freaked out.
Battery and low fuel alternate back and forth for me (I have a bad sending unit with a short somewhere; just haven't gotten around to getting it fixed) if I turn the key to "Run" and leave it like that. I've NEVER seen "Security" come on when the key is in the ignition, which makes me lean further towards your computer having a fit. Maybe there was a short, some static electricity or it was just time for the ECM to go. In addition, even if Passlock were on, you should still show as being in the parked gear. Since the trip OD reset and your fuel gauge is completely out, that makes me believe even more strongly that something shorted. |

Re: 00 Silverado turns over, wont start
Try this... go in the engine bay and take the Neg cable off the battery. Then right below the battery to the left of it ( if youre facing the front of the truck/ looking into the driver side windshield from the front of the vehicle) there should be what looks like a black box. Open the black box and it should reveal the PCM. Unclip the top clip and unbolt the connections. Both of them have a 7mm sized bolt while the battery uses an 8mm. Once the PCM is out check to see if any of the pins are burnt out or bent...if not then let it sit for a few mins (10-15) with the PCM still out. After the break, reinstall the PCM CAREFULLY, you dont want to bend any pins. Make sure when you put the connectinos back on that you do it straight and not at any angle!! Then you need to tighten the bolts to make it go down any further. Reconnect battery, try to turn the key to the run position, but not on yet. IMPORTANT: When you turn the key to the on position LISTEN... you should hear almost what sound like a buzzing noise, thats your fuel pump...if you dont hear the noise then thats your problem, if you do hear it then proceed to turn the vehicle on!!

Turned out to be a simple fuse. ECM2 (what that has to do with everything that went wrong, I have NO idea. Hope this helps someone else some day

Re: 00 Silverado turns over, wont start
00Silverado - I experienced the exact same situation you discribed in your post, i.e. stopped for gas, filled up, won't start, fuel gauge read empty.... I got a ride home, called a tow truck, got on the internet, did a search on the problem, the first article I read was yours and read the fix. Went back to my vehicle, exchanged the ECM2 fuse with the hazard fuse and it started and everything worked. WOW!!! I'm a strong believer in Jesus Christ and can not ignore how your post helped me get my 99 Silverado back on the road. This whole situation took less than 1 hour to fix start to finish. Thank you for posting your article - it did indeed help someone, me yesterday
God Bless - Jeff
