Car feels like it's floating at high speeds
Hello. I have a really strange problem. Whenever I drive on the highway at >55 mph, it feels like the car is hovering and about to lose control. I spun out once on the highway back in February during some blowing snow and wrote this off to bad conditions/bad tires. I have brand new Michelin Hydroedge tires and it's still giving the same sensation on the highway. I've had a 4-wheel alignment and a tire balancing done in the past two months. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Car feels like it's floating at high speeds
Honeslty I am not sure what is causing that if there is even a technical answer. But I can say I feel so scared driving my car in the rain or snow. NO joke It feels like I am floating and I am going to spin out. I have tested this theory in empty parking lots and dude I spin out like crazy I have absolutely no grip to the road. I do not feel safe when driving in that kind of weather with the civic. I thought maybe it had somthing to do with the car being slammed and all, but that makes no scense either...I dunno man maybe somone else can provide a better answer.

Funny you should mention that. I just bought me an 2002 Civic HX, manual trans and have only had it a week. I noticed that mine does the same thing. I automatically feel the car accellerate (I think it's the V-tec kicking in) and the ride feels smooth like I am floating. Feels great! Honestly, I think it's just you dude. The car is doing what it's programmed to do ... you just can't handle it. I have a 1991 CRX Si, manual trans too which does the same thing. I don't feel it automatically accellerate like my Civic but it does feel as if I am floating and any slightest shift of the wheel it feels as though I am going to lose control of it but I only get that when I am going 70+ mph which I expect since the CRX is so light. You may want to get your steering checked out if it's that much of a problem. |

Re: Car feels like it's floating at high speeds
Is your suspension properly set up? Bad struts, improper alignment, improper lowering job, bad wheel and tire combo, other worn suspension parts like struts/springs can all cuase this.

You could install a spoiller to add to the downforce, if it makes you feel better.

Re: Car feels like it's floating at high speeds
If your traveling 180+ miles an hour and have rear wheel drive. Spoliers have no effect on front wheel drive cars, its all for looks. For it to have a purpose you would need a race car.
