My '94 S-10 Blazer is smoking from the defrost and floor vents. The defrost vent causes the windshield to fog-up on the passenger side. If the defroster is turned on as I am driving, a big cloud of white smoke comes out. There doesn't seem to be much of an odor to it. There is no smoke in the engine compartment under the hood or underneath the vehicle at idle. Is this a heater core problem, or something else?

Re: '94 S-10 Blazer Smokes from Defrost & Floor Vents
It's probably steam from the heater core.
If it's smoke it wouldn't fog up any windows. Just make them dirty If you live in a dry area try living with it until early fall, and see if it clears up. It's possible that exsesive amounts of water somehow got in there, causing a tempary problem. But it's more likely that you have a fried heater core and you'll have to replace it. It's a big job to replace. Watch your coolant level. If it's your heater core your rad will be going down very slowely |

I have noticed that the coolant level would go down in the past every couple months. I also have recently noticed (within the past month or so) that no and then there will be a few drops of coolant under the vehicle after parking there a couple of hours. I figured the two combined was a small leak in a hose somewhere, but It sounds like it was signs of the heater core going bad.

Re: '94 S-10 Blazer Smokes from Defrost & Floor Vents
When my heater core in my 93 was bad (2 times now) there was fog and odor. There was some coolant occasionally dripping out from the vent above the tranny hump.

I went out during my lunch and found that there is coolant leaking from the vent on the tranny hump. Looks like we have the answer. Thanks for the help, everyone!

I guess we know who won the race then. DNF's are never nice, and DNS(did not start) are even worst
I imagine that 300 includes labour. It's worth it if you can afford the labour charges. If you can't you can bank on the job taking 1 day, and possibly your full weekend depending on your tool supply, and ability to swing a wrench |
