85 S-10. Headlights, tail lights, horn, instrument lights and radio out.

I have an 85 S-10. The problem is that my headlights, tail lights, parking lights, instrument lights, horn, and radio all quit working at once. But my brake lights and signal lights work on the front and back.

The thing that is puzzling me is that like I said, the signal lights still work but the parking lights dont. All the fuses are good. I checked them all and even replaced them all but still nothing.

Somebody said it might be the relay but I dont even know what the relay looks like much less where its at. and if its the relay to the headlights why would all that other stuff quit working?

I just think its odd that the parking lights wont work but yet the signal lights (which are the same bulb) will work. At least I think they are the same bulb.

This is my only viehicle and I have absolutely NO money to take it to a mechanic. If anyone can help me on this Id really appreciate it.

Please be detailed in your explanations because although I can work on a car somewhat I have no where near an expert on car repair.

As it is I can only drive this thing in the day and my inspection is due in a few weeks.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 85 S-10. Headlights, tail lights, horn, instrument lights and radio out.

That puzzles me. I just looked at my 85 owners manual and I see that at least 3 circuits aren't working.

Although the parklights use the same bulb as the signal light it's 2 completely different circuits. Including different wires from front to back.

I would almost narrow it down to the fuse box, or possibly (and not very likely) the ignition switch.

It shouldn't be too hard to test the fuse box with a test light.
Don't waste any money on a used one until you test your present one. It sounds like you can't afford it.

Before you drive anywhere test your brake lights.

If you need a copy of the fuse box diagram from my owners manual sent to you drop me a private message with your e-mail address and I'll send it.
It doesn't show much or help much, but every little bit sometimes helps
