'85 iroc TPI with a big time engine miss

Hello. My problem is that my 8 cylinder engine is only working on 4 cylinders, the one whole side isnt firing. When I first step on the gas, the car stutters for a second before going. Its not the spark plugs or cables and I cannot find any pinched wires. Would this be a problem with the ECM? I been looking for another computer to try but the 6870 is so damn hard to find. Any places to get one? If thats even the problem I mean. I am confused.

What kind of ignition system does it have? Does it have seperate coils or distributors or whatever for each bank?

The ECM has no control over individual cylinders or banks. you have either, a bad cap, rotor, plugs or wires or bad (no) compression on all 4 cylinders on one side.

I would go along the lines with Morley's last suggestion, something is common to the whole bank. Are you sure you have no spark on all 4 plugs? You verified this? I would suspect more like that banks fuel injecotrs aren't firing, that would be more likely.

As for the ECM, from one 85 owner to another, don't even bother with a another 85 ecm, upgrade to an 86. There are so many goof ball flaws with the 85 as it was the frist f-body TPI. There's no performance gains, just reliability.

Well, check all the basic things an engine needs, gas, spark, compression, and air. I'd say you can automatically rule out an air problem since the other bank runs fine. If you check for compression if one cylinder doesn't have compression I would guess the whole bank doesn't and would start looking into that. Fuel is a little more difficult to figure out, at least I'm not sure how to check it. I would put my money on a problem with spark since it is a whole group of cylinders.
