Stupid seatbelts

Gadamnit I fucking hate Iowa, just as they change the seatbelt fines to 50 dollars I have to gadamn get one, it's stupid ass bullshit. It should be OUR GADAMN CHOICE whether we where a seatbelt or not. It's bullshit, I didn't wear it after I got the ticket, and I obviously wasn't wearing it before, and guess what asshole cops, I'm not going to ever wear it! For the record though this cop wasn't a total asshole, maybe this should be in stress release but I just thought I'd let ya know Iowa has seatbelt tickets totalling $49.50. That's two cases of beer down the drain, oh well. I've been in a couple accidents before in which I never was wearing a seat belt, both at 40 mph or faster, and although I did get thrown around quite a bit nothing really happend, it's like motorcycles and gadamn helmets, fuck wearing one of those, I'm not going to have my neck cramp up on me when I'm riding out to Sturgis so screw off fucked up government. If I don't wear a seatbelt, then IT'S MY OWN GADAMN FAULT if I get hurt. Good thing I'll be working a few extra hours now though, gadamn government takes enough of our money, but that's better off left alone otherwise I'd have an hours worth of complaining to do.

Re: Stupid seatbelts

I can understand your frustration...I've gotten one of those...however it was my punishment for doing 107 in a 55, so I was ok with paying it
But yeah, it is one of those topics...I don't wear one in backseats etc...but whenever I'm driving my car, you better believe I'll have it on. Not trying to lecture you, obviously it's your decision...and I'm sure many can relate. My only suggestion would be to find a place with cheaper beer...because I don't know what you are drinking, but I get plenty good cases for a hell of alot cheaper than $25 a piece

Ok, two cases and plenty of Doritoz.

There are times when I feel I should have my seat belt on but generally I trust my driving and I'm always aware of what's around me but if I feel like I need one I'll put it on. But a stupid ticket should not be that steep of a fine imo. I mean I know $50 isn't that much, I earn well over that in one day of work and with school getting out next week whoopee but I dunno, I could buy 3 music cds, a ps2 game, 25 gallons of gas which would get me around 300 miles, or plenty of other things I could use more.

Re: Stupid seatbelts

Just curious as to why you don't like to wear a seatbelt? Comfort? I just think that such a small hassle is no problem, espcially if they save so many lives.

Re: Stupid seatbelts

First, I ALWAYS wear a seatbelt and have for the last 40 years of driving. I can't afford the time with being hurt and away from my job any longer than necessary.

The government intervenes in things like this with laws to protect not only you but me. Certainly, it seems to be your right not to wear a seatbelt but what happens when you get hurt? A lot of people you don't know will end up paying for your rehabilitation and care if you are seriously injured or disabled. It would be better for all of us if people who didn't want to wear seatbelts would be able to sign a waiver to be "self insured" so that you would bear the financial brunt of your injuries( and therefore would only fix you as much as you could afford). This way the rest of we taxpayers wouldn't have to be concerned about your seatbelt habits.

Yes, comfort reasons is a big one, I've raised the seat in my truck 3 inches and the height of the seatbelt isn't adjustable so it's really a PITA on my shoulder and such. There are some vehicles where wearing a seatbelt doesn't even bother me, like our Silhouette, I have no problem wearing seatbelts in that and if I'm asked to I will, it's just a habit not to wear it from driving my truck all the time. Now if I had a bucket seat with a 4 point harness I'd wear that because the straps seem to not be in any uncomfortable spots on that.

CraigFL, I'm only 17, little more than a month from 18, so maybe in ten years I'll realize it's worth the extra two seconds, who knows. And for that waiver, I'll sign it, I absolutely hate doctors and hospitals.

(half kidding about that last sentence)

Well ok, thanks alot, asshole. J/k, haha if that's the way you feel then ok, I can see your position on that, but as I said, I have been in a couple of bad accidents, nothing really bad as you hope though. I went from 45 mph to 0, in literally two feet, I'm not shitting you. It was in a 2wd 1993 Ford Ranger. I went off of a corner on a gravel road close to my house, off a culvert and into a creek bed, the creek was the size of my truck damn near so when the front of my truck hit the bank it stopped, instantly from anywhere from 35-50 mph, that's just a general accusation though because I was slowing down for the corner, in 3rd gear of the truck when I blacked out. I hit my head on the windshield because I wasn't wearing a seatbelt but nothing happened. So what do you prefer happens, head on with a semi truck? broad sided at 80 mph?? You name it, I've seen kids walk, away from the worst of accidents, and some kids end up in the hospital from damn near nothing. Seat belts don't always save lives, they're just supposed to. If you want proof of kids walking away from some pretty bad car accidents I can give it to you, because a handful of my friends have been pretty deep in shit before. One year ago two of my friend were driving in a Taurus when some stupid bitch pulled out, well not in front of them but the corners of the cars met each other, no seatbelts in either car, and nobody was hauled to the hospital, my friend was goin 65, and the other girl was goin prolly 30 when she hit him, granted the airbags went off in the Taurus.

Wow, way to be a prick. How about you reread the AF userguidelines and learn to post with some respect or simply refrain from posting.

Two bad accidents in less than two years? Sounds like misplaced trust I'd say.

So because you got lucky twice this means you'll forever be lucky? Following your logic I'd say something happened when you hit your head!

CraigFL is correct that society as a whole has to pay for injuries. The more insurance company's have to pay out the more they charge us. I also heard that states can lose federal money if they don't have seat belt and helmet laws. We shouldn't have to pay (or lose money) just because people who don't care get hurt or killed.

Well the first "accident" where I went off the road was because I was severly fatigued and just blanked/passed out, it was after a track meet that was two hours, and it was co-ed so not only was I awake for a long time I had also been running very hard, but that's not really an excuse but still. The other one was purely my fault, got caught up in something and took a down hill turn at 60+ mph on a gravel road. Once I got back and looked at the sign hidden by bushes it said 15 mph. yeah a little bit too fast but I'd never been on the road before. Both of these were easily less than 500 dollars damage, I myself just got thrown around a little bit. At the times that those happened though I'll agree, my head wasn't where it should have been really, that was when i was 15/16 though, so bein a teenager I should have a little slack right? and I didn't hurt anybody else so I'm greatful for that. Also, luck is something far from what I ever get, so don't assume that I got lucky. I'll agree with you on the last paragraph of yours fully though. If I ever got in an accident and killed someone, and it was fully myself I literally could not live with myself and I dont know what I'd do for that person's family. When I had to go to classes for drunk driving they showed us a video where some high school kid was drunk and killed another girl in an accident, and after that all the parents asked of him was to write out a one dollar check to her name, every week, for 30 years, and it showed him later in life that it was getting very hard for him to write those out, I dont know if I could do that. And believe me, it's not because I don't care, you dont know me so dont' accuse me of that.

Re: Stupid seatbelts

three year olds not being able to clean their own shit isn't a case of being stupid.
it's them a) not being able to and b) not knowing how to.

not being able to and not knowing how to, isn't stupid.

on the other hand,
i) knowing that wearing a seatbelt can prevent injuries
ii) knowing that not wearing a seatbelt is an offence
yet you still choose not to wear a seatbelt and when you get caught, you complain about it?

hey guys, let's play a game of spot the stupid one.
