1.9 or 2.0 engine -which is better.

Any opinions out there about which engine is better? I know the 2.0 has more power, but the 1.9 engine has better milage. I have a 92 and a 95 wagon. however i want to replace the 92 and recently came across a good deal on a 97 wagon with the 2.0 litter engine. I have heard the 2.0 engines have more problems. any opinions about the post 97 wagons and the 2.0 engines compared to the 95 or 96 wagon?

Having had both a 95 wagon with the 1.9L and a 97 sedan with the 2.0L I would have to say in a comparison it is a draw. On both engines I had the crankshaft pulley separate from the timing ring. Both happened around 50K and cost 200 bucks to get fixed. I'd have to disagree about the 1.9 getting the best mileage. My 95 wagon got 40mgp and the 97 sedan gets 42-46 depending on how I drive. When I drive like an old man I get 46. The 97 2.0 has 110hp and the 95 wagon had 88hp. I believe the extra gas mileage in the 2.0 is because of the split intake ports. At low draw they restrict causing better gas mileage, but at full throttle they open up all the way causing more power. I put 98k on the wagon and did nothing except change the plugs and the timing belt. I have 135k on my 2.0 sedan and have replaced the plugs, wires, timing belt, headlilght assemblys and front brake pads. Oh, yeah. I drive a lot at night and I've replaced every bulb in the 97 except the dash lights and the dome light. If I had to pick the better car I would be hard pressed to do it. They both were really great cars.

my opinion is go to this kids page www.cardomain.com/id/jeffscortlx he will explain it all.
But the main big diff is the head assy has more intake passeges witch means more air and it also has bigger injectors witch means extra 20hp
you can get an extra 20 hp out of a 1.9 with a 4-2-1 89 GT hedder 3.8 litre throttle body and a nice homemaid intake with a 5.0 litre V-8 MAS and some injectors

come check out my page i got a bunch of crazy stuff done EVO III

Re: 1.9 or 2.0 engine -which is better.

Not only does the 2.0 SPI have 22 more hp, but because of the Split ports it has a wider power band, plus the crank is balanced better on the 2.0 then the 1.9er for smoother rev's. The head flow is much better on the 2.0. But other then that, there the same motor.
