5g Mirage Engine Swap QUestion:

Well I found out the normal 4g63t engine won't mount up because of the 180 degree switch they did in 97 for the Mirage, but my question is I heard about some engines working? If so could a 4g64 (2.4L block) out of some year work as a direct drop in? i'm looking at gathering some info on building a 5g evo with a 2.4L block and a custom awd drivetrain. Thanks all.

where did you get the 4g63t from?

isn't the 4g63t on the evo 8 facing the same direction as the engines on1997 and so on. they both face with the front of the engine towards the passenger side. Maybe you have an engine from an older model vehicle where the front of the engine is on the drivers side.

WEll from what I read the older 4g63t motors are facing the wrong direction to drop in a 97+ Mirage the newer 4g63t would work i believe but what about cost of a newer engine? I'm also wondering if a 2.4 4g64 will bolt up? I've read nothing but good things about that engine and making gobs of power.

if you wanna drop a 4g63 or a 4g64 into a 5G basically what you need to do is get a late model evo or lancer ,you might be able to get a 4g64 out of say a summit wagon , not sure how those mount tho.
you might run into some problems with the tranny on the 4G64 wich is od since its basically a stroked version of the 4g63

The onle thing i dont like about the 4g64 2.4 is that it is only available in SOHC form as opposed to the evo 2.0 which is DOHC.

You can drop the 4g63t DOHC head right on top of the 4g64 block. It bolts right up. i'm just trying to decipher if the 4g64 block will be a direct drop in on a 5g mirage.

i think yer best bet would be to get the 4g64 out of a 5G summit wagon ,sounds like it should be the same right ?

also what you could do (if yer willing to spend a ton a money) get a 4G63t and stroke it , there are stroker kits on ebay i think

personally i'd go for the 4G64 and get a 2G eclipse head (the 1G engine overall is better but the 2G head will make more power)
