What is this?

I saw this on another message board today, anyone know if this is a joke or the real deal. What is the deal with Tamiya if it is true.

photoshopped, if this was the real deal then you'll find some info on the tamiya website.

Re: What is this?

let's see, dodgy typeface for the name, stock image of car and 'funky' unaligned 'sticker'.. smells like a joke to me.

Re: What is this?

Not the first faked Tamiya box I've seen. They had this awesome all-metal R/C truck years and years ago, 4WD, 3-speed tranny and transfer case you could shift, looked super-real, and every R/C guy who likes the scale aspect wants one. Anyway, somebody PSed the box of a 'new' version of it, only bigger with a new Toyota 4-door pickup body, and everybody was camping in their chairs until they found out it was a fake

Re: What is this?

That's the Fujimi box with Tamiya labels attached. A fake.

Re: What is this?

Slightly off topic BUT do you actually get fake models, i.e. counterfeit models? Not that I want one - just worried I may get stung buying one at some point!

I believe one of our new members from Malaysia said there are knock-off models sold in his country, but I doubt you'd ever see them exported through any reputable site. We've seen a few in R/C, look just like the 'real' ones and even accept some of the parts, but not many, and they aren't being passed off as the real ones.

There is. same like tamiya logo, but with twin star as word. Like bandai, pirated stuff called bandi. What I heard all this fake stuff got license from real manufacture, but under the table, they have to paid them a sum of money to continue their business. If they can't do so, lawyer letter will come after their ass.

the only company that i know that makes "fake" kits is LEE. they use reverse molding, i believe.

All the boxes i have from T. have a painted artwork. Never seen a T. with a photo instead of painted art.

Tamiya's Mclaren MP4/13 japan verison has a photo of the real (1:1) car for it's box art. And, I believe several other f-1 kits have a photo of the built up model as it's box art.
