Excessive cranking
My engine starts only after two or three tries, then runs fine. Mechanic says fuel pressure is OK so that pressure regulator should not be the problem. Have replaced plugs, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter, fuel pump 1 year old. Ran Seafoam thru system. Cleaned EGR valve. Any other ideas??

Re: Excessive cranking
My 95 started getting harder than usual to start. The CPI was leaking, depending on what year you have you might be having this problem.

Re: Excessive cranking
Make sure the fuel pump runs when you first turn on the key, it should run for a few seconds. There is a relay that controls it. If the relay is bad, it could cause hard starting, because the pump would only run when the cranking brings up the oil pressure (oil pressure also runs the fuel pump)

I ended up changing out the fuel pressure regulator. It was fairly easy to do and solved the problem. |
