abt to get a 2000 celica gts

ok. i found a gts for 11k with 30k miles on it. im going to go chekc it out in two days, but one thing that terrifies me about this car is i heard that with the narrow shift gates, you can shift into 2nd instead of 4th and wreck your valves. now my question is, is this only dangerous if your shifting near redline? also, how exactly does it happen? whats going on when it does? how much would it cost to repair your engine if it does happen to you? any help woul dbe much appreciated. thanx

If you are careful and get used to it you won't have a problem. Just make sure you get to know what gear do downshift to at a certain speed. Be careful on your shifting technique. Most people have gotten into the habit of upshifting with your hand on the left side of the shifter (thumb on bottom instead of top) so that you don't accidentally pull the shifter towards you when shifting from 3-4 or 5-6 very quickly.

You're going to love the car.. have fun!
