Question CD player

2001 cavalier 2.2L with a CD player...recently my cd player stopped working but it took a couple of days for this to happen (if that makes any sense), every once in a while my stereo would just cut out...then at one point it stopped working..then it worked in opposite...it wouldnt work except for the once in a while that it would play for about 10-15 seconds then stop working again. crackling did come from the speakers 2 or 3 times...but didnt sound like something serious..just a side effect for the deck not working...my question is..im just going to replace the deck with a rockford but is this problem more serious then just the deck not pumping out sound...cuz the player works in all other aspects except for the sound..clock works..it reads what track its on or what station is playing...in other words the display works..just no sound...now if i replace the deck will this solve this problem or is there more involved in the problem..im just hoping its wireing or electronics for the stereo....;any help would be great, thanks.

Re: CD player

Power chip in that deck could be fried from normal wear and tear. I would suggest making sure none of the wires on the back of the deck are melted. If they aren't then replace the deck. If they are replace the wires. Suggested replacement deck Clarion... Best sound quality
