damn!!! what a screw up!! sad story here
I just had the worst experience an auto mechanic could ever have. One of my customers cars a 94 accord (which he just brought) just fell off the lift in my shop!!!!! The damn car fell on its side and then on the roof crushing everything the roof is all caved in and everything. Luckily i wasnt there at the moment cause it could have easily been me down there. I had to give him the $2500 dollars he just paid for the car, and am now the owner of a 94 ex. i already have one of these cars and this is not how i wanted to get another one. i was careless and after the car was lifted, the phone rang and i went to get it, just as I got the phone i heard the bang.I dont even know how it fell I lift cars all day and this is a first.Well anyway thought i share my f- up wit some off yall.

Re: damn!!! what a screw up!! sad story here
Holy shit! I used to have bad dreams about that, all the years I worked in a shop. What kind of lift? (in floor, asymetrical, above ground) I'm guessing a regular single post in-floor like we used.
I would love to know how that happened. One of my guys left one on a lift overnight with a tranny jack under it, and didn't set the safety lock on it, it bled down overnight, and in the morning the car was pointing straight up at the ceiling. But I used the wrecker to secure it, and we were able to lower it without damage (whew!) We had a rustbucket old Toyota truck's frame break in two on the lift, but it never made it more than about 2 ft off the ground. Was kinked up between the bed and cab with about a foot gap between them.

You know what they say, make lemonade. Maybe you could make a cool convertible or cabrio from it?

Wow, sorry to hear that. Not to downplay your accident..but be glad it was only a $2500 Accord. A guy who I worked with at a detail shop was about to undercoat an Escalade when it fell from a lift. Nobody was hurt...but a $65,000 brand new SUV was pretty much ruined...and I know ALOT of his paychecks went straight to paying that off.

yeah I guess I lucked out. I was shaky the whole day just thinking of what could have happened. i still dont understand how it flipped completly over. I< >I those are the kind of lifts that I have. The owner was kind enough to give me till friday to pay it off. i gave him 1,ooo already. hopefully I will have a good week to pay it off and still have money for me. I am still thinkin about what to do with the car though, it is the most expensive parts car i ever brought. it does have a vtec with 80000 miles though. thinkin bout that convertible idea.

Was the lift still going up when you turned away from it? The only way I could see one falling from a two post is if one side stuck and the other kept rising. Check your lift out real good, be careful.

Yeah i was checking the lifts, they are alright.the car had a major oil leak or something cause where i put the lift legs under the car there was tons on oil residue, also i needed the rubber mounts that go on the lifts legs. when they broke I should have ordered new one, but that was more than 6 months ago, and i never thought this would happen.i guess with the metal to metal contact and with the oil, the car just slipped. could have fell on me, so i guess the outcome wasnt as bad as it could have been.
