2000 grand am gt

I just bought a 2000 grand am gt for my wife and I have a few questions for you guys. Its the first pontiac we have owned.

1. What kind off horse power does this car put down? I have searched but can not find the answer to this question.

2. We have had the car for about 2 weeks now. Its runs and drives very well. A couple of days ago I started hearing a low pitch sound coming from the belt. Its not a squaling nose sounds more like a pulley. Have you guys experieced any problems with the idler pulley?

3. What is the biggest size wheel that will fit on the car?

thanks in advanced for any info.

Hey, I also own a 2000 GA gt here(my baby)! As for horsepower, the se v6 is 170 and the gt v6 with the "Ram Air" is 175 horsies. I'm not too positive on the torque specs. You could try edmunds.com and go to used, and enter your car. It should tell you all of the original manufactures specs. I don't really know what to tell you about the low-pitched noise issue. Mine's always made a little noise, but it's the usual serp. belt noise just moving with everything. hope this helps.

Re: 2000 grand am gt

The horsepower is 175 bhp, That has 205 lbs of torque. Depending on whether or not you have a 2 door or a 4 door the car weighs between 3066-3116 lbs. Here is some additional information http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/U...arreviewspecs/ (copy and paste into address bar) As far as the size of the rims you are usually able to go up 2 sizes without any problems, however if you go with thinner tires you might be able to jump up to a 19 inch rim

Re: 2000 grand am gt

The horsepower is actually puts down....probably around 140-150 FWHP. Torque is a little more.

In my opinion, anything over a 17" rim looks tacky on the Grand Am GT's. I love the look of my 2001 with the stock 16's.

Re: 2000 grand am gt

Here is a nice site for checking out factory specs on any car:
http://autos.canada.com/researching/comparemodels.aspx

As for the noise:

A quick way to check if its just belt squeal is to spray a little WD40 on the belt and see if it goes away.

If the squealing remains (and the sound is constantly there) then you'll have to check your pulleys. It's a pain in the arse b/c you dont have much room to work with.
