Beeper inside when ignition turned off !
I just changed my timing belt and now of a sudden, the beeper inside my
'93 Geo Metro sounds when the ignition is turned off. It beeps until I remove the key! All lights off. No warning lights on.... Chilton Manual has nothing about this problem. It didn't used to do that! Loud and irritating! How can I find the cause? DoctorBill DoctorBill is online now Edit/Delete Message Reply With Quote |

In most of the newer vehicles I've owned, that is a feature that reminds you that you're about to leave your keys in the car. It's saved me from locking them in more than once. Does it stop if you close the door, or is it doing it all the time?
If it's all the time, then that is weird. |

my cars beeps untell the keys are out, but another thing could be, do you have an aftermarket deck in your car? Alot of decks that have removable face plates beep when you frist turn off your car to remiond you to take the face plate off.
Note: My car's a 99 and it has always beeped untell I remove the keys from the ignition. |

Re: Beeper inside when ignition turned off !
I din't know that!
Yes - I have a Jensen CD player with removable faceplate... However, no - it is not that. It is the car's beeper (very very loud!). It has rained gobs in Spokane and this has to do with water. My overhead light flashes (set to go on when door opens). If I click it off, USUALLY the beeper goes off - not always. If the car is dried out, the beeper does not go off when I turn the engine off. Has to be a water short somewhere along those wires from the door lightswitch. That means taking off a lot of panelling, which I DO NOT WANT TO DO! Then something beeps very quitely from somewhere once in a while. The Jensen CD Player...?? Or maybe the spy device left over from the previous owners put there by the government to spy on me. I'm not paranoid! DoctorBill |

Re: Beeper inside when ignition turned off !
Doctorbill, look at switches to all of your doors I'm not sure what configiuration you might have, 2 doors, 4 doors or hatchback. It sounds as if one of your door switches could be malfuctioning. They usually are simple push buttons that push in or out depending if the door is open or closed. That would explain why your inside lights and buzzer are sounding.

No wires to find inside the hole. Passenger side door switch is there, but does nothing. ????? The wire for the passenger side switch goes toward the back of the car. I would like to open the paneling up to see what is there, but THAT could become a can of worms! I'd bet somewhere rain water is setting on a frayed doorswitch wire and intermittently conducting 12 volts to the frame. Now that I know what is going on, I am not very concerned about it. Before that - I thought I might have had a BIG problem. DoctorBill |

Your not the doctorbill that works on heart patients and used to be a logger are you?
Sounds like your car HAD a problem with the beeper NOT working and you accidentally fixed it. Mine is pretty quiet so I never worried about it. It can be annoying. Find out where the damn thing is and rip it out. I don't think it will hurt anything. Is it the same one used for the seatbelts? Biff |

Re: Beeper inside when ignition turned off !
Doctorbill, you might be able to use a coat hanger to snag the wire to the door. Any junk yard should have a new switch. The connector to the switch is probbly making occasional contact to your car frame inside. There is only one wire to the switch. The clip on the outside grounds when installed, but can crode. The hard thing to get is the rubber cover that goes over the switches they wear out and let moisture get in and the switch can quit working. good luck.

NOPE....BUT THE BEEPER CAME FROM A HEART MONITOR - I NEEDED ONE AND AS I PASSED THE PATIENT IN IC, I TOOK THE BEEPER FOR MY GEO..... THE GUY DIDN'T NEED THE BEEPER. BESIDES - WERE I A HEART DOCTOR, WOULD I BE SCREWING AROUND WITH A GEO METRO?! Sounds like your car HAD a problem with the beeper NOT working and you accidentally fixed it. INHERITED WHEN I BOUGHT THE GEO USED...... Mine is pretty quiet so I never worried about it. It can be annoying. Find out where the damn thing is and rip it out. I don't think it will hurt anything.
