won't rev as high as it should

oddly from a standstill floor the gas til 70 mph it only reaches 4900 rpm but if i stomp on the gas at 25 it downshifts and revs until it reaches 5800 before shifting so if i go a little and then stomp on it again it accels faster thats not rigth i need help to fix this yes i know the redline is 5500 85 s10 blazer 4x4 2.8 2 barrel automatic

This is normal.

Leave it alone or if anything, adjust your TV cable.

i don't think so becuse when i bougth it 3 years ago when i accerated from a standstill i could get it to 6000 before shifts

You shouldn't go that high with an engine not made to withstand those high rpms.

I think the max it is supposed to go to is 5500 MAX.

I agree - I'd be afraid to be behind the wheel of that vehicle with a 2.8L engine turning 6 grand - those engines sounded pretty scary at 4500.

Maybe my thinking is wrong, but in a 20 year old truck, I'd be happy that it got me up to 70MPH and went down the road. At least that's how I feel about my 85 S-10.
