Thinking about selling the Camaro

I'm thinking I'm going to sell my Camaro. All it has been so far is a money pit, and I don't have money for my car to be a money pit and pay insurance for it.

So, if I do sell it I'm going to get another F-body most likely. This time I'm going to get a Z28, Formula or Trans Am though. From what you guys say it isn't that much difference in insurance, and I turn 18 in a few months, so it should drop at least a little bit. I just got my proof for taking driver's ed too.

I'm thinking of fixing it to where it purs (which only seems to last a few weeks at a time, no matter how much money I put into it), and sell it early this summer, when the prices on sports cars are higher. Then I'll be able to get another 1000 or 1500 from work, and buy an early 4th gen F-body.

Do you guys think I should go through with it?

Hm..Well if you're gunna buy an early 4th gen then it will kinda be the same thing but then again you could get lucky but thats a low chance.

Re: Thinking about selling the Camaro

Now I have a V6, and it's ridiculuous on the insurance even though it's just got a 3.4L engine, not to mention it's a money pit. If I'm going to be paying most of my money on insurance, I might as well have a reason to.

I'm pretty sure I can find a 94 or 95 Z28 for about 4K, and I'll have more than that after I sell my car and save up this summer, then when summer is winding down I'll be able to buy on pretty cheap.

Re: Thinking about selling the Camaro

I got a new engine put in it a while back, and it purred when I got it back. Then it started acting up, and after talking to everyone about the syptoms, it seems to be an computer problem, so I'm going to have to take it somewhere to get the whole thing checked on the computer.

It's probably something like a short somewhere, because the engine is in aweome condition. I've just got to take it somewhere and have it checked.

Re: Thinking about selling the Camaro

If you are hoping that your insurance will go down when you turn 18 don't hold your breath. Cause even if it does go down when you turn 18 it'll go up more than it dropped when you turn 21.

Re: Thinking about selling the Camaro

well if u are looking to buy an lt1 your gonna be in the money giving zone for real, most of them are on their last leg anyway, cars that old need to be rebuilt, and when u buy a car thats 8 years and older u kindda need to look at it as a project car, yeah every now and then u find one that the last owner took great care of but lets be real, thats like hitting the lotto. i just got back my built 3800 after dumping a butt load of money into it just to get greedy after having it for 3 days and now im deciding to get a ls1 engine for it. it started as a project to get it running better than it was and i did so maybe u need to think about what u wanna do before u spend your money on other options.

Re: Thinking about selling the Camaro

Maybe it's different around here, but it always drops the insurance with your age as you get older.

I don't agree that all cars that old will become a money pit either. I drive a 92 Jeep Cherokee, and I don't spend too much money on it at all, just gas and oil. Even if I get one that needs rebuilt, I would rather have a Z28 with engine problems then a base model V6.

After looking at both sides of the arguement, I think I might as well get a Z28, because insurance is high because my car is a Camaro, not because it's fast. If it's another two hundred or so a year, I'll live with that. Basically I don't have any bills other than stuff for my car anyway.

Well why not just buy an Ls1/ls1 instead? Sounds better to me since the other car you buy might be more of a money pit and all you want is a different engine

Re: Thinking about selling the Camaro

I don't have the money to get an ls1. If I did, then I wouldn't think twice about selling my car. I'm going to do a lot of searching for the next car, and I'm going to take it to my mechanic before I buy it to make sure that it's in good condition.

Sometimes around here you can find an awesome deal when you're looking for a car. Before I bought my car I found a 94 or 95 Firebird Formula for 4000 even at a dealership.

Re: Thinking about selling the Camaro

I figured that some of the regulars would support me on trading up for a more powerful camaro. I guess not.

Anyway, what was the matter with your car Rally Sport 92 when it was acting the same as mine?

Re: Thinking about selling the Camaro

Sorry, but the usual rule of thumb is that it goes up when you turn 21. So don't expect a break cause it ain't happening, apparently we become more dangerous around that age. Maybe cause it's legal to drink then...

Well after a while it turned for the worse and seems head gaskets were blown so now im waiting to get an Ls1 in that bad boy and tear the streets up again, until then im steady crusing in a 2003 Monte Carlo which I have already won a few races with.

This is somewhat true, but if you keep looking and don't rush you'll find one with good mileage and a good price.
My 91, when I bought it 2 yrs ago had 67,000 original miles and the original owner. It might take a while but keep looking.
Now it has 89,000 with no problems. Just alternator and battery replacement.

Well there's alot of crappy camaros out there too, and it really is like hitting the jackpot like another forum member on here that found that 3rd gen convetable that had only a few miles and was being kept by an old lady. I guess what it comes down to is what you want, new car with hopes of no problems or old car with new wanted engine and problems on body/rest of the car already known.
