Re: 93 jeep cherokee overheats
Well that could be a tough one. Have you seen the water leaking out? Where did you se the leak? If boil out I would think you would have had more of a sign if that were happening. I wouldn't think you would need radiator unless you can see it leaking or you were having an overheating problem you were unable to fix. There are other things that could leak, freeze plugs, heaeter hose, heater control valve, heater core, etc.

Re: 93 jeep cherokee overheats
First, with engine cold, fill radiater with water and drive until engine comes up to operating temperature. Park on dry pavement, open the hood and look and listen for leaks. If any found you will know where to start. A mechanic or radiator shop should be able to pressure test the cooling system but I would recommend looking for it first yourself. It could be the radiator cap, a loose hose clamp, a leaking hose (upper or lower radiator, heater, etc) any of which would be easier and cheaper than the radiator and all should be ruled out before you let someone replace the radiator. I am a do-it yourselfer but relatively new to auto repair so listen to others advice but this should get you started. Not meaning to be smart but do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot!

XJ's in the summer with the OEM radiator seem to overheat alot. Sometime ago I purchased a 94 XJ, and it always seemed to overheat, or have the running temp too high for my liking. First I would do the check for leaks and try running it without the thermostat. If it still heats like an oven, I would look into purchasin a high proformance radiator with 3 rows. I am not sure how many rows the OEM radiator has, I think 1. You will notice the difference. It would fit perfectly in place and your temp would drop. But make sure you check for leaks and get it pressure tested first. I live in central Georgia and in Texas where temps are high all the time, and the highest my temp ever gets in stop in go traffic is 210 (midway on the temp gauge)
Good luck |
