electrochromic day/night rearview mirror with compass

I have a 2001 Aurora and I was wondering if all the 2001 models are equiped with electrochromic day/night rearview mirror with compass. The manual does not mention if it is an option or not. So I assume they all have this feature?

It says to press the on/off button for 3 seconds to turn it on or off. My mirror has a button with a white dot on the bottom left, a blue onstar button in the center and a red button with a white cross on the right bottom. I'm not sure what button activates the feature. All I know is that when I press the button with the dot, the little red light flashes until I press it again. The only time I see the little red light turn green (this is suppose to mean active) is when I put in or pull out the key and then it turns red again after a few seconds.

I also noticed that at the bottom left of the mirror there is a round door with a slit on the side of it. I tried opening it by hand with no success. What is this for??

Thanks.

Re: electrochromic day/night rearview mirror with compass

Auto-dimming was an trim package option on the 3.5 (could be ordered separately but came together with power seats, dual zone air conditioning, etc) and standard on the 4.0 litre.

If you don't have it, you can find a mirror at a used parts place or eBay that has the dimming option and it will snap right in and work without any other modifications. If you can, get the mirror also with the built-in compass...its cool!

It is strange because in the manual it does not state that it is an option, but rather part of the package. What do I have? Is it just an onstar mirror?

If you look on the option list located on th inside of the spare tire cover the option is DD7 (mirror I/S R/V LT sensitive, compass)
