01 Grand Am door chime, dome light, door lock & remote

Several issues started at the same time on my 2001 Grand Am. The dome lights will not go off when I am stopped. The door chime stays on when the door is open, key removed and there are no lights on. Also the door lock switch is not working correctly; it will not do the auto function where you push it once and hear the three bells then lock after all the doors are closed. When it is pushed now nothing happens. If I hold it down for about 15 seconds then all the doors lock. The remote no longer works for the door locks either. Anyone seen this before? What is the cause? What is the fix?

umm, ok...care to enlighten me as to what is so funny? Is there something that you know that you're not telling? Or do you just not have any logical answers, but wanted to wish us luck? Bad or Awful news, I don't really care, I just want to know.
Thanks, Heather

Oh sorry. I have no idea about this problem. but it sounds serious. so i was just saying good luck. but if i had to guess sounds like a ground wire or something. go buy a haynes repair manual they have the wiring diagrams in the back. check out what wires are what and chase em down to see whats going on.

Re: 01 Grand Am door chime, dome light, door lock & remote

Could be something as simple as a blown fuse or a door pin that isn't functioning properly. I'd check all fuses for sure (in the driver side compartment and under the hood). I believe there may actually be a third fuse panel in those cars on the passenger side hidden near the BCM, but check your manual to be sure. You can check the door pins with a mutimeter and a wiring diagram (try www.the12volt.com for wiring colors). They'll be at the BCM in the passenger kickpanel area. Outside of that, it could just be they keyless entry system malfunctioning, which would probably need to be serviced at a dealership.

Sounds like it may be a BCM issue since everything seems to be acting up. I would do search on "door locks" in the forum. I have fairly decent luck with my '01 SE, knock on wood.

Here, I got you guys started. This link shows everything in the Grand Am forums in regards to door locks and known problems. It's a long list so good luck. HTH

Thanks everyone for your replies. The most logical may sound like the ignition switch. Perhaps I'll give the dealership a call and see if they have had any others come in with that problem. It doesn't do it all the time, just most of the time =/
Thanks again, Heather

Re: 01 Grand Am door chime, dome light, door lock & remote

I checked all the fuses, in all 3 panels. Driver side, passanger, and even under the hood. When it chimes with the driver door open my lock button on the door does not work, but my remote does work to lock and unlock the car. The few times I turn the car off and remove the key that the chime doesn't activate when the door is opened the lock button on the door will work. Thankfully the remote works all of the time though. Also, the automatic lock function that is supposed to lock all doors when you go over 5 mph, doesn't work. The reason I said ignition switch sounded most logical, is because I've pretty much eliminated the other causes. Could the ignition switch possibly cause all of these malfunctions? I'm off of work tomorrow. I will call the dealership and a few other people and see what I can come up with and get back with anything new news. p.s. I have an 01 GT if that helps anything.
Thanks again,
Heather

Re: 01 Grand Am door chime, dome light, door lock & remote

Just to let everyone know, I was to busy last weekend to do any checking into the troubles with the Grand AM, and at this point I'm not going to search for the answer any further. I sold the car and got a 2005 TrailBlazer. Good luck figuring out the problem.
