Who else caught the finale of Star Trek: Enterprise? Opinions?
Did you feel it was a fitting end to the series? (And to the airing of new TV episodes for the first time in 18 years of the franchise's history since the launch of TNG in '87.) I thought they did a pretty good job of bringing things together, and cementing the basis for the next 200 years of human and alien relations. What about the guest appearances from Commander William Riker and Councilor Deanna Troi? I find it interesting that fans either bristled at the idea, or embraced it. I suppose that depends on your feelings toward cross-series plot linkage. I've always liked when they jog characters around in the timelines (both in the same chronology of events, and in parallel universe event chronologies.) I'm psyched that there's news of a potential movie on the horizon (presumably starring the Enterprise cast.) Since, while I'll always be enamored with the TNG crew (like many) even I'll admit they're all getting a little long-in-the-tooth appearance wise for new movies to take place in their timeline, unless the writers design a movie specifically based around later events in the TNG crew's lives. But I believe Nemesis was officially announced to be their last movie anyways. So bring on Archer and crew! The part I find the most interesting about all this, is what the future holds for the series on TV. Will SciFi pick it up? Obviously UPN will no longer continue to host it (and why would they, after all, they have more engrossing programs to host -- like hour long dredges into the disgusting lives of Britney Spears and that Federline guy. Good choice UPN
GAG ME.) Whatever. This isn't the place to get into that now. However this IS the place to get some other opinions on the show and ST's future. *sits back and waits for the imminent Trekkie-bashing posts to roll in, yet still hopes for some legit ones*

When I first read about the finale in TV Guide a few weeks before the airing of the show, I was really disappointed. I found it to be a frankly rude to put both Riker and Troi in with the Enterprise cast. At first I thought how can they, its two different timeframes, etc. Besides, the cast of Enterprise have shown that they can hold their own and it would have seemed fitting to just let them bask in the sun. (Mind you this is before actually watching the show). After watching it, I would have to agree with you that they did a very good job of blending in two story lines (Rikers' Pegasus dilemma and Archers at the start of the Federation.) I was pissed that they killed off Trip. If anyone had the potential to be in another series or cross-linked elsewhere it would have been him. But I guess they had to do it, becuase if they didn't then most likely he and T'pol would have gotten together and actually have a child (unlike the previous episode, it being a clone, btw which I missed) That would have jeopardized the timeline/story of having Spock being the first human/vulcan birth. So natually they killed him off to preserve the history. It sucks though. As for cross-series linkage, I like the idea so long as it makes sense and is really needed for the storyline. There have been quite a few crosslink storylines throughout the series and most have come through well. You mention a possible movie. This is the first I heard of it. After the disappointing box office reciepts that Nemesis got, (I liked it btw) there were rumours that there weren't going to be any more movies (at least for a while). As for the SCI-Fi channel picking it up, HAH, I doubt it. Those jerks wouldn't know a good thing if it dropped in their laps. Shoot. They must be following in the footsteps of those jerks over at TNT and UPN. When Sci-Fi was showing the reruns of Babylon 5, it gave them their highest ratings up to that time. So high that they signed a deal with J. Michael Straczynski for a series (spinoff) called the Legend of the Rangers. At the last minute they cancelled it. Same thing with TNT with the B5/Crusade spin offs) Go figure. Its amazing they kept Farscape and Stargate running so long. Anyway getting back on topic, its a shame that Enterprise ended cause I am sure there were many more interesting storylines to explore but I guess its true all good things come to a end. Only time will tell, maybe that couple that started the letter writting campaign back in 74 are still around and can start another one. TS out

Yeah, it'd be a tough call for expecting SciFi to pick up the show, seeing as how ST:E is supposedly relatively costly production-wise (although apparently they shifted to using greenscreens and other types of computer wizardry to fill in more of the backgrounds and effects and whatnot, to save costs.) As far as a new movie, toward the bottom of this article they hint at it... but it seems to be in only the infant stages of planning.
http://www.startrek.com/startrek/vie...cle/10642.html One things for sure -- I don't see how any fan of the franchise couldn't justify at least keeping tabs on the progression of any developments in the near future. It'll be interesting to see what comes next for Trek on TV. As long as it isn't another 17 year hiatus (unless you count the cartoon from the 70's)

Good Article, thanks.
Unless the screenwriters/producers make for a compelling storyline that would bring in followers and non-followers to the franchise, I do not see how the movie studio will make another film. I love what they did with the storyline of ST:IV where the energy producing planet Praxis was destroyed and thus forcing the Klingons into a treaty with the Federation and dismantling of the neutral zone. The same could possibly be done with the Romulans. Have the Borg invade Romulan space and they will in turn have to ask the federation for help. maybe even through in Q into the mix. Anything so long as its a very good storyline. There is one story line that I do believe was explored in TNG series but not fully, and that would be to expand on the theory that all the worlds came from one civilization/species genetically. Romulans, Klingons, Vulcans etc. TS out
