Re: 88 si head swap
does the d16a6 head bolt right on to the d15b2 block... and would there have to be timing and other things involved

Re: 88 si head swap
Yes it will fit, but IMO a waist of time. If anything find you a Z6 or Y8 head to bolt on it. Kris has a Z6 motor for sale in the classifieds. Ask him how much he will let you get the head for.

Re: 88 si head swap
whats wrong with an a6 head?
i say go for the a6 head, they make decent power and are good for boost too. and yes it will bolt up, but you may have to get a d16a6 timing belt and some other goodies. and get a z6 head gasket, they are much better than the stock composite gaskets.

Re: 88 si head swap
I agree with Doug... Whats the point? If your gonna do it, atleast swap in the whole engine... That way u get the low end torque too... 100@5000 ft lbs compared to the 89@4500 in the B2... A simple head swap wouldnt be worth it IMO... Plus I think they are essentially the same head... Its just the DPFI vs the MPFI which are where the A6 is better...

Re: 88 si head swap
I think the only real difference it the cam. The A6 has a slightly more agressive cam. I would just put the cam in instead of replacing the whole head.

Re: 88 si head swap
But even just the cam, I dont think would see much of a difference in power... And most definately wouldnt see any without a MPFI swap... I just think a MPFI swap would be the best thing to do to that engine, other than just swapping it out for something else....

Re: 88 si head swap
the only thing i have is the head... i dont have the whole motor.. the head was given to me.. so ur saying that the mpfi swap has equal amount of power to a whole a6 head swap??

Re: 88 si head swap
MPFI and a Z6/Y8 head will put you about 135 I guess.

Then go for it... Dont forget to get a new head gasket and head studs (reccomended)... And a timing belt (not sure which one on that combo, but my best guess is the CRX DX since the heads are the same, but Im not sure) and water pump (CRX DX)... From there once u have the new head on, just follow the write ups people have for doing an MPFI swap... And you should be good to go... |
