Need input from stratus owners

Hey everyone, just signed up on the forums. i'm thinking about buying a 1996 dodge stratus SE, 2.4L. It's only got 73k on it and it's in pristine shape. Any known problems with these cars? Should I go with a stratus at all? Any input would be great.

I just bought a 95 stratus ES. It seems the previous owner didn't take very good care of it, but I still haven't had too many problems. I did have to replace the fuel pump and the radio didn't work.

Haven't had that problem yet... Although the head gasket blew on my Shadow. I hope I don't get that problem!

Re: Need input from stratus owners

the 2.4 liter had a big problem w/ the head gaskets blowing at around the mileage that you are at right now, in fact it was a recall b/c of the defective material of the gasket. If you don't have a repair history of the head gasket being already replaced, you could be looking to shell out $1500 for a head gasket fix.

Mine's 2.5, I don't know if that makes a difference at all. Also I noticed that most people had theirs go around 50-75k miles but my car is well over that, like 151k.

Re: Need input from stratus owners

well, I should've replied to BuddhamanJB; doomstress, you're fine, the 2.5 is a decent engine, I haven't seen any big problems other than intake gaskets and timing belts. Only thing, make sure you change your timing belt at 60,000 mile intervals, when the belt breaks on this motor, all hell breaks loose and you're in deep trouble.
