2nd piston fried SR20det WHY!?

Ok I tore down my spair sr20det well was a spair but incase some of you didn't know I sold my 240 last week. But anyways tore down the spair sr I had, I knew it had some kind of problem but I was going to rebuild it from the bottom up anyways. Now for the question I have seen lots of posts and pictures about the #2 piston frying along the edege. The engine I tore down today was like that, I'm curious as FUCK why in the hell this happens? I mean logically it doesn't make sense. So if someone would please explain it to me that would be great.

Running lean. Something caused you to run really lean. It may have also been too hot of a plug. Something definately caused some pre-ignition. May have been as simple as a dirty fuel filter. Or a clogged injector.

Re: 2nd piston fried SR20det WHY!?

Oh I'm cool with all of it, this is my 2nd 240 in the past 6 months. I have a tendency to make $$ off them so the guy I bought it from I would do it all over again 100 times. I paid $3,300 for the car w/ a Cwest body kit that was painted and not put on and the spair SR. I sold the car for $6,000 and I still have the c-west kit left to sell and the spair SR. But the SR prob won't be ready for a year or so if I took a guess at time. Can't tell you why it
s going to take so long but I can tell you there won't be another SR like it in the world. BTW if anyone has a good website to buy SR internals from (pistons, rings, gaskets, ect) post it please srparts.com can suck my dick they want way to much for their shit

Re: 2nd piston fried SR20det WHY!?

It happens to the #2 because of the Intake Manifold. it puts the most air in the #2 and #3 cylinders so in usual conditions they just run a little hotter but when it leans out or you try to pack too muck boost into it they'll be the first to go.

Thats why 95% of SRs over 400HP have an Intake manifold... Besides the huge powergains because of how restrictive the OEM is

yeah i was just goin to say that SR's probrably has a inherited problme with running lean in cylinder #2 becasue of hte intake manifold design. toyota's 3SGTE found on the MR2 turbos are the same thing. they run leaner in cylinder #3 and when your gonna make big power, you have to have a new intake manifold made.

Re: 2nd piston fried SR20det WHY!?

could it have also been too hot near the exhaust manifold? I remember the WRX's in 2002 (IIRC) when they came out always had problems of wear in cyl no# 3 because of the exhaust manifold design and the heat built up in that area...

For internals, you might wanna try either www.heavythrottle.com or www.phase2motortrend.com if you haven't already.

Re: 2nd piston fried SR20det WHY!?

Thx been to heavy throttle and personally screw them, they are raping everyone on everythign they sell but that's just my opinion. They buy Everything from Curtisy Nissan in DALLAS TX and sell it to us for double. their New SR pistons, they order SR20DE grade 1 pistons from Curtisy for $30 ea and sell them to us for $60 I don't know just not a big fan. But I guess that's business

Re: 2nd piston fried SR20det WHY!?

that is true, I must give you that one. But don't you agree that selling everything at at least double what nissan sells it for is robbery? I mean what the factory charges for stuff is robbery in itself.

They found a legal way to make money, if people fall for it, they shouldn't be blamed for it.
