Re: my 97 ga se

quad, all GM motors have a water pump, with no disrespect to you, K? I'll post a link that may help next. Granted, there are a few air-cooled engines, like the early VW's or Corvairs, but all the GA's have a water pump.

Re: my 97 ga se

If the coolant is not leaking internally into your oil, or externally through your engine, or your water pump, that would leave a bad headgasket as a possibility. You could be burning off small amounts of coolant at a time, and losing it that way.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

Re: my 97 ga se

quadfour, The link that knifeblade has posted will be of great help. The water pump is located on the left side of the engine near the exhaust manifold. You may have a leak at the water pump seal, My 96 has a drippy seal at the water pump but it is such a pain in the butt to work on that I'm just going to wait till is blows out completely, untill then I'm watching the coolant level. Right now it is worth the cost of a gal of coolant over the trouble of working on the pump. As for the coolant leak in your ride...are you blowing white smoke out the tail pipe? it is possible that the head gasket is shot even though the oil doesn't smell.
Sorry I didn't read Ridenours post first, we are saying the same thing. I hope the three of us have been of some help, if you have more questions just let us know.

Good luck.
