Reseting the ECU

..Does anyone know how to reset the ECU on the 2000 G20...I call my infiniti dealership and they quote me a minimal of $105...thats alot of money for juss resetin the ECU...I already browse the se-r.net but couldn't find anythin....Please help me...if you kno...the engine service light is makin me krazie..

Last I checked, all you needed to do was disconnect the battery negative cable for a couple of hours . . . like overnight or something . . .

Definately not worth $105 . . . $5 maybe . . .

i juss left it overnight...but the service engine light was still on.....

you must have a loose sensor connector somewhere. check your intakes ...what mods have you done.

2000 G20....I put a placeracing cold air intake...all the connector are in the intake except one...no more hole to fit?...I checked my intake...three tubes fitting on the top of intake....a connector in the middle.....and a sensor connector at the end....but I have one more connector sitting in my engine...So I fit a total of 5 connectors... and there's one more left....is that rite??

Resetting the ECU.. remove the lower panel in the center console on the driver side by the gas pedal. once that is off you will see the back of the ECU. with a small flat head screwdriver.. look for a small screw next to a LED (towards the back end).
Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine not running).
Turn the screw fully clockwise, wait 2 seconds, and then turn it fully counter-clockwise. Once the screw is turned fully clockwise and counter-clockwise again, the ECU will be reset.

PrimeraGT is correct...thats what I had to do in my 1999 G20t when I installed the apex AFC...just gives you engine light flash code and then it automatically resets itself...

Are there any benefits to resetting the ECU other than taking off the warning check lights ?

the ECU learns as you drive. once you do a reset like that, it basically is processing and learning everything all over again. at least, that is the simplest form of explaining. anyone feel free to correct me on that.

This learn thing is something I have heard about too. It is also sometimes refferred to as fuzzy logic. I want to know if the ECU learns from you'r particular style of driving, and if so if it is worth resetting it when you have just bought a second hand car and want it to learn your own driving habbits.

I have also been told by one dealership that the learn mode is reset and all the values lost when the ignition is switched off i.e. it is only learning for the duration of each journey. What do you think?

Well, I would image it would be an over the course of time thing because what good would it do if you are only driving short hops? It can't hurt to reset it though. Every time I add a new mod, I reset the ECU.

All you need to do is disconnect the neg. cable. Turn your key to the on position for 15-20 secs, reconnect. This completely drains your memory. Drive for 50 miles for a quick learn, but it will take you 200 miles for a complete relearn.

This is the wrong way to do it.

First off you are not resetting the ECU the proper way. Do you pull the plug out of the back of your home computer everytime you want to reboot? Why would you do that on your car's computer when there is a proper way to do it.

Second, removing the battery cable is REALLY annoying. You then have to reset your time, preset radio stations, if you have aftermarket stereos you have to reset all your EQ settings. It will also drop all your setting from any other aftermarket stuff, like AFC's etc... Why go through all this when you can do it the right way in minutes?
