i bought this ss oil line off ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT of my evo 3 gt and i noticed it is leaking where it threads into the turbo, i think i can make it tighter, but iam worried about striping the treads. can i use thread tape or will it just melt? has anyone else had this problem?

no, it wasnt a banjo bolt.. it just came with a fitting that threaded into the turbo. do i need a crush washer with this type?

Re: leaky ss oil line!
I basically have the same type of oil line, but mines for extremepsi.com. I used copper washers for mine with no leaks! So I would try to get a copper washer.

Re: leaky ss oil line!
Any time you are not using tapered threads (NPT or BSP) you have to use something to create the seal. With AN stuff its typically an O-ring. In this case (high temperature) a crush washer should prove to be the best option. Viton would probably hold up though since the center section is water cooled. At any rate, you need something in there.

Re: leaky ss oil line!
I bought the ss-oil feed line to 16g fitting from Mach V, I believe--$16. Jake and I improvised with a fitting that didn't thread right, and just cemented it in there with locktite. It held great for 4 months
But I had to get this fitting to go from the SS oil feed line to create a good seal at the turbo--no crush washers, just torqued down to ~32 ft.lbs. I believe. Double check that--it was something in that area. No leaks

Re: leaky ss oil line!
If its an aluminum fitting it may work without a crush washer, since the aluminum is probably softer than the copper crush washer, or at least close to it.
But a straight thread fitting can not make a seal at the threads. It has to happen either at the bottom (like brake/flare fittings) or at the surface (oring or crush washer). But if it works, it works.
