oop.....Transport department get a little annoyed

This is what happend to my mate not me. I was only there when it happend, and it was funny as shit to us.
Driving last friday night in my mates RX2 monster bridge port. He drove through a tunnel. So being the bored dick he was he drops the '2 out of top and into 2nd. and plants it....making a racket that would wake the dead and knock koalas out of trees (there were none round though). After a breif squirt, he slides it back into 5th and we continue on our way. Just as we leave the tunnel we hear the 'whoop-whoop' and look behind...The cops were behind him the whole time (freakin unmarked cars). He pulls over. Cops give him aspeeding fine and a excessive noise through operation of a vechical fine. As well as a order to appear at the transport department to prove that his car meets the noise laws.
Next day we show up there....I'm there just to laugh at him when he fails (arent i a good mate)
He brings the engine up to the RPM required (4,500) and backs off so the reading can be made (rule is, half the max power RPM, 1meter away from tailpipe at a 45degree angle, measured on back off). And spikes a reading of 132dB(max allowed is ment to be 91dB)....as if that wasnt enough he tries again ('just to make sure their equipment isnt faulty'-yeah right). The '2 backfires and shoots a massive flame-due to the webber being out of tune-and cooks the Mic as well as makes a new reading of 135dB. I was on the ground in tears at the look on the tranports dudes face....my mate was grinning like a loon, and proud of the fact he broke the mic.
Needless to say he got his arse kicked. Car was imidiately deregisterd and he was ordered to pay for a new mic and might possibly have to appear in court for damaging government property.
You guys might not find it funny...but we found it funny as Fu>K.
Sorry for the long post but I jsut had to get it out....I just wanted to see what some other people think of our stupidity/looniness.

Dude, that's AWESOME!! But it's bullshit that you'd have to pay for it. I'd just claim it's a backfire and tell them to shove it up their asses. It's not his fault. It's not like he grabbed the mic and threw it on the ground.

Let me get this straight, you have to keep it at half of redline? That means that his car redlines at 9000 rpms?

What kind of car is an Rx2

Yeah he is a bit of a dumb-arse....but yeah it was funny.....Its a bridge port rotary....so it has no torque but loves to rev hard...10,000rpm+ isnt uncommon in a fully worked rotor.
but his makes max power at about 9000...so he reved it to 4500....
I know its bullshit about the damage to gov property....thats what we said. But its just a case of the waiting game to see what comes of it.
He went to the muffler shop today to get 2 more mufflers and a resonator put on it to try and bring it back down to acceptable noise levels.
cyprus: because it was a full on flameage style backfire is the reason i think they came down on him so hard. Because in the eye of Aussie cops any car that isnt standard is a dangerous vehicle and should be put off the road asap....its bullshit..

Throw a monster bridge port into it...and get everything really well balenced and it might rev to 10K.....but it will drink a fuel like it has a leaky tank, and will be useless for city commuting.
