Changing Spark Plugs
I recently bought a 71 Super Beetle in desperate need of restoration. It has the 1600cc Dual Port engine. I need to change the spark plugs so I can get it to crank. How is the best way to do so? From what I can tell they are very difficult to get to.
Thanks, Nick |

Re: Changing Spark Plugs
Not too difficult. A regular spark plug socket will do the trick. 3/8" drive works best.
Just remove the wire and rubber seal, put the socket on the plug, then a short extension, then the ratchet wrench. They'll come right out. Make sure you mark which plug wire came off where. Chasing down a misfire due to crossed plug wires can be tough, and timing is impossible. |
