X on head lights?

I was jux wonderin, why do some people mark their headlights with black tape making an X design on there? Does it mean something?

For at the track, if they smash a headlight glass doesn't go flying all over the track..

because nascar dont need lights, since they arent real cars anyway. they are just crude molds of a real car over a full tube frame.

because its for the car manufacturors, they want to see the race car look like a real car so it had a resemblance. its an advertising form i guess u can say.

yea phat is right, its a rolling advertisement for lets say ford. people in the stands will say hey, that nascar looks like my ford taurus, maybe ill buy some ford parts to make it faster, etc.
