b18a/b vs b20b??
I was just wondering.. if you had a 4g and a stock ls swap and a stock b20b swap both mated with the same transmission.. which car would win in a race<~~i sound like a 15yr old with a skyline GT-R

Re: b18a/b vs b20b??
Im gonna have to say the b18, because of the revabillity... The b20 only has a few more ft lbs of torque, and a low rev limit, where as the b18 has more HP not too much less torque, and has a higher rev limit... So u can rev it more freely... Kinda like a big rig, has alot of torque, but it dosnt move very fast because u cant really rev it up too high and shift as fast...

Re: b18a/b vs b20b??
unfortunatly too many variables to be able to give a answer... depending on the transmission, driver...
I have seen a b20 in action and my vote would be on a B20

Re: b18a/b vs b20b??
I think a B20 with an LS IM and different exhaust manifold makes about the same HP as a B18.. Maybe even more.

Re: b18a/b vs b20b??
This passed weekend and at the street races here in Ontario, Ca. This guy running a b18b with a LS cable tranny in a crx, told me if i wanted to race him, i did and not to brag but i beat him like by 7 cars!! maybe it was him?? who knows but i would have to vote for the b20b!!

Re: b18a/b vs b20b??
B20
the b20's have the same head as the 94+ LS motors. They are rated at 126 HP in a CRV, that's with the crv intake manifold, tiny ass header, tiny exhaust, restrictive ecu, etc. When you atleast bolt on an LS intake manifold, header and a larger exhaust (it's a 2.0), you have near the same amount of HP as an LS motor, actually, generally a little more. And the B20 has alot more torque than a B18 to the wheels...between 15-20 ft lbs, which is ALOT in a honda...especially in a 4G. B20B's usually dyno at 135 HP/ 135 TQ. They are highly underrated in the CRV. B20z's are even better...they are rated at 146 HP but, that's what they put down in a dyno so they're HP is actually near 160. Oh yah, B20's have the same revability as a B18...same head, same rods....just depends on the ecu. I bring mine up to 7k all the time...on a 90 teg ecu.

Re: b18a/b vs b20b??
you should also know that even if you were to go by the factory rated power numbers on both motors, the B20 motors would see that power a few thousand rpm's sooner. That because of the whole torque:rpm
ower relationship...which effectively broadens the power band. Peak power is for bragging rights. It's the power band that win's races. I'd rather have 5 HP more from 4k to 7k than have 8 HP from 7k to 8k.Also, i wouldn't put the b18a and the b18b in the same group. A b18b is alot better than a b18a. The B18b head flows considerably better and the b18a motors at best are at least 12 years old. Hands down a b18b motor is better than a b18a. My opinion: H22a>B18c5>B16b>B20z>B18c1>B20b>B17a>B16a>B18b>B18 a>D16Y8>D16Z6>ZC>D16A6 theoretically speaking if they all had the same gearing and were in the same car, with all other factors equal. there's my .02 cents.

But, the key word being stock for stock... As u said yourself the B20 has restrictive parts, which all hurt revability... As rev ability is mainly dependant upon the air entering and leaving the chamber, this is what makes VTEC so good... But yea, with a better exhaust, header, and ECU, allowing better flowing air, and better rev line and fuel maps (more tuned for higher revs), the B20 would probably have the advatage... He also said the same transmission, since most of the power is lost in the tranny, whether its the B18 or the B20, you will lose about the same amount of power, so if the B18 is losing 15% of its power from the B18 tranny, and u mate the same B18 it to a B20, the B20 will lose the same amount of power... Not trying to debate, just back up my opinion with some info... |

The B20 doesn't have restrictive parts, the CRV does. You can't use a crv exhaust manifold, or intake manifold, or ecu. They are the SAME exact engine, except the B20 is 2.0. Same exact head. See where i'm getting here? the b18 isn't more powerful than the b20 if they both use the same tranny, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and ecu. It's like saying if you had two identical b18's and bored one to a 2.0 and saying that the 1.8 would be faster than the one that's been bored to 2.0, because basically that's what a b20 is. not trying to debate here either.... actually yes i am!

I was unaware u had to swap in an LS IM and ECU... So if thats the case, then sure the B20 would take a B18... Learn something new every day... |

btw, newer 99-01 crv motors already have the smaller integra ls intake manifold already on it from the factory. It's the same identical intake manifold as the integra one same code and everything.
