TECH Q: re: My 93 GMC Suburban, 3/4 ton 454 4x4

Please help me troubleshoot this problem...

I have a 1993 GMC K2500 4x4 Suburban. 114k miles. Runs great. BUT, when we are pulling our camping trailer up an incline it recently started to tick. The trailer weighing around 8,500 lbs. The Sub is capable of towing 10,000 I believe. It has not always done this. It just started ticking. Sounds almost like something is trying to engage electronically? The sound comes from under the dash on the drivers side. Its a faint tick. But it still ticks. Soon as we are back on flat land it stops immediately. Truck never gets hot. Always runs at 210. Always. And when its ticking, nothing appears to be wrong. Its just a noise. The knock sensor was changed. Thats the first process of elimination. This truck is now for sale. It runs great. But we want to fix the problem before it ends up someday actually being a problem to the next owner in the event they decide to pull a trailer. We've taken this Suburban up the Cajon pass in California plenty of times without the trailer. So it only ticks when carrying a load.

Any smarties out there that would kindly like to explain what this tick is???? Thanks SOOO MUCH. We talked to 2 mechanics. One said bring it in. Well of course they all want you to. Another we brought it to but was scratching his head because we couldnt mimick the tick at the time.

FYI this vehicle is all stock.
