|
Interior black--best choice?
I'm finding it difficult to make a happy medium when it comes to making leather or vinyl interiors. Gloss black simply looks too shiny, and flat black looks too flat. I believe I've even tried semi-gloss a few times with mixed results. Does anyone have any little tricks to make the vinyl or leather interiors look realistic?

hi tigeraid you could mix the flat with the semi gloss until you get the shineness you require or what i do is use tamiya flat black and when dry rub it gently with my finger and it will leave some grease from your skin on it which gives it a slight shine looks good. good for leather or vinyl look dont have to be flat black just use any flat colour you want and rub with your finger. hope this helps.

Another method I tried in the past was to use matt black, then get a sharpened candle and rub the tip over the paint surface. Gave it a polished leather look.

I take a bit of grease from the outside of my nose and rub it into some matt or semigloss blask. Seriously!

Krylon Seme-Flat back, available almost anywhere that sells paints. (Wal-Mart, JoHann Crafts.......) gives the most realistic looking leatherery, interior black out there, it also works great for chassis's

Floquil makes a black called Engine black that is very versitile. It's not quite semi-gloss, and not quite flat, and you can vary the finish by how thick you put it on. Best of all is that it's almost self-leveling. I've brushed this stuff on and come out with results just as good as if I sprayed it through the airbrush. It's truly great.

I'm with Tonio. Flat black with a little skin oil rubbed in gives a very nice leather luster effect.
