just wondering if anyone can tell me if a 5 speed gearbox aout of a 1.3L 92 swift sedan will fit to replace a 5 speed gearbox out of a 1.6L 89 swift sedan? or if not, will the whole 92 1.3L engine and gearbox fit into the 89?

Re: will 92 1.3L sedan gearbox fit 89 1.6L sedan?
Yes, they both use the G13/16 gearbox bellhousing... the question to ask is whether the gearbox mounts and the CV shafts can be used? Which I believe from memory that they do not fit... Best bet is to find a G16 gearbox, factory is some time easiest and the best, not necessarily the cheapest

The 1.6L gearbox uses a similar bellhousing, but the bolt pattern is defferent for 2 holes. It won't bolt up directly. All 1.0 and 1.3L transmissions have the same casing from 89-2001. But the gear ratios change between models and years.

They aren't the same at all,the bellhousing bolt pattern is different, the 1.6 has hydrolic clutch and shifter cables too. The 1.0-1.3 trannies have shifter rod and a clutch cable. I'm also pretty sure that the input shaft of the 1.6 tranny is bigger.

Re: will 92 1.3L sedan gearbox fit 89 1.6L sedan?
Hey notsoswift,
It does take alot of work to swap to the 1.3 trans. Not recommended if you don't have time or skill. Hydraulic clutch setup can be swapped from the trans with just a little work, but you will run into work with the shifter since the 1.6 is cable shifted and the 1.3 uses linkage setup. And don't forget that you'll need all three 1.3 axle sections. Plus the 1.3 intermediate shaft may not bolt up right to the block because Mine didn't, but you can't use the 1.6 shafts (splines are too big). Other things are the 1.3 flywheel and 1.3 clutch will be needed. 1.3L flywheel bolts right up to the 1.6l engine. Top to bolt holes on the trans case line up perfect. None of the rest line up, but the best way to make the 1.3 trans bolt up is talk to the Samuri guys. They have an adaptor plate that will work perfectly for all the bolts. Mounting points are the same, but you will need the 1.3 trans mount brackets. That's the far outside one. I didn't need to swap the one at the firewall. You may have to mess with the mount at the firewall a little bit if you go the adaptor plate route. I didn't use the adaptor plate. I got the 1.3gt trans and bolted the 1.3gt trans bracket to the 1.6 block and have three bolts holding the bell housing. Regular 1.0 or 1.3 trans doesn't have this extra bell housing hole. Wondering if you wanted to sell your intermediate shaft??? It's the axle that bolts to the block. Are you going to fix the car or part it out??? Hope all the info helps |

Sorry about some of the double posting. I went to edit and finished my post, but it left the first one and added my edited post with the old one.
